Really want to watch this one as it's supposed to be much better than the book.

I remember hating this movie, but I can't recall what it was all about. For some reason it felt cringy, but I would need to see it again.

That vomit-fest flashback scene is the stuff of legends. Good film.

I remember hating this movie, but I can't recall what it was all about. For some reason it felt cringy, but I would need to see it again. It would've been on the shelf at my local Blockbuster Video rental store, but as a kid I wasn't really into movies with other kids in them and would've passed this one up. I wanted action. But as a Stephen King fan, I'm intrigued.

The movie is quite good and I remember liking it a lot when I was a kid. I don't know if it would stand to the test of time, though: I'm afraid to watch it again and think it's crap, so I'll have to go only by my memory.

"Pretty good all around, but probably much better for those who grew up watching this. Now, watching it 30 years later without having having any attachments to it, it is still good, but a little less good than what most people think. There are some scenes that are incredibly relatable, and there are scenes where the kids acts as adults, and then it is absolutely not relatable. A fun story definitely, and it is cool to see such a young Sutherland. The ending is perfect though, especially with that end credit song. I feel like a lot of Stephen King novels and adaptions have a hard time getting the ending right, but here they nailed it." 3.5/5 stands the test of time, but not as the be all and end all of coming of age movies.

Also, it seems the movie had some impact on japanese culture, according to this Legends of Localization article. It's even referenced in Pokémon and Mother/Earthbound 0, and I do think it might have some influence on FFXV. EDIT: I haven't played it, but it seems the game opens with a cover of Stand By Me, so it's a safe bet that there was a direct influence.
