This week I would like to discuss the character Fodesinbeed Annodue, the announcer for the pod-racing scene in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.  What do you think of this... peculiar looking monstrosity character? What do you like and dislike about his presence in the film? What stood out most about him? Discuss. |

After months of not posting any fictional character discussions, I decided it was time for another one. I'm still in a really shitty mood these days and I still don't have internet access at my apartment, but I felt as though I needed to vent about one of the ugliest character designs in cinematic history.
I would honestly say that Fode and Beed is second only to Quadinaros for the title of flat-out WORST character design in the entire Star Wars universe. I love Phantom Menace, but man did it have some truly appallingly bad character designs. I think characters like Quadinaros and Fodesinbeed are the reason why I find the podracing scene in that movie so damn difficult to watch. And his voice was almost as annoying as his appearance.
Phantom Menace is such a juxtaposition of amazing artistry and cringy, childish mediocrity that its actually fascinating. Never before have I seen a film that is such a radical contrast from one scene to the next.

Wait a minute, those are two characters. I think we need to dedicate 1 week for each of them. Hmm, you know, you might be right. I didn't think to do that when I made this thread. Ehh, who really cares though. I mostly wanted to judge them just for their appearance, and they're both equally horrifying-looking. |

It looks like a character from a bad CGI cutscene from the late nineties, which SW: TPP kind of is. On a tangent: I think Lucas had a brazilian advisor suggesting names for his characters just to screw with him. Excuse the curse words, but see, "Fodes" means "You fuck" in portuguese; "Dooku" sounds exactly like an expression that means "from the asshole"; "Sifo-dyas" sounds exactly like "Fucks himself". There's no way those were accidents!  The translators had to change the names of some of those characters, like Dookan and Zifo-Yyas. ...Now that I think about it, the real reason may be because portuguese is a messed up language were every word is terrible.  |
