So last night I was playing Oblivion while unknown to me there was a severe storm outside, and there was a 3 second power outage which shut off my PC and monitor in the middle of gameplay.
Is it possible for such an event to damage a PC or corrupt data or something bad like that? Has this ever happened to anyone else here?

I am looking for the pub-goers personal experience, not search results on google. I think I remember hearing Cervantes say that he lost power on at least one occasion while playing Mirror's Edge (I think).

That was the second part of your inquiry yes, but you have a habit of coming to the PC forum here in particular with tech support questions that are easily found with a quick google search. I've said it before, but this isn't really best place to find those answers.
But yeah, if you want to know people's personal experiences, but all means. No issues here, either on PC or on consoles as the result of a power outage. Granted, if I'm playing a game on PC, it is usually on my laptop, so no power interruptions

I have had various instances with consoles where after a power outage my internal hard drive gets corrupted, and I have to redownload everything, which is an insanely painful situation.
I also had to replace a couple TVs for the same reason. Luckly, they were under warranty when that happened. This is why you should never connect anything directly to the wall. At least use a power strip.
It hasn't happened with a PC yet to me personally, but I'm sure they are not an exception.

My experience is with a corrupted save file in Mirror's Edge Catalyst, as the stupid autosave, and the game keeps a single file, was working right when the emergy got down.

Spirit Bomb - I've suffered plenty of them and I even guess that one of my HDDs might have started giving me errors (and then broke) because of them, but I'm not sure of that - it could just be old or something. Anyway, as power outages are very common where I live, I use a battery backup - even if a power outage doesn't directly break your computer, they'll still make you lose work or even corrupt your system (by the energy failing when you're installing/updating drivers, programs or Windows itself). So, if there are too many power outages in your region, you might consider getting one - over here, there was a time when I was experiencing a quick power outage (between 1-5 minutes) almost every day for an entire month, and then a power outage every few weeks, so a battery backup is a necessity.

That's some good advice! So far in my month of living at this apartment there have been two power outages (due to storms), so it doesn't seem like a regular occurrance, and I usually turn off and unplug my PC + all my gaming stuff whenever I notice it's storming outside, and just read a book or two until the storm ends. This recent outage really caught me off guard because of that, since I didn't notice. So, I probably won't invest in a backup battery unless the outages become more frequent.
