Can today's gaming consoles just go downhill in quality anymore? There is so much bullshit you have to deal with nowadays on these new systems. Install the game first then play. Or download an update later to fix a broken game.
Here we are what 2 years now into this console gen or was it 3? Well so far I haven't seen anything I would buy a system for. You know in 2 years the ps3 and 360 had more exclusive games made for them then these new systems did in there two years.
I continue to put more and more of my money toward handheld gaming then I ever have before. My next purchase will be a vita to go alongside my 3ds. Too me those are the only good systems this gen because they have actual exclusive games made for both and are not just filled with a bunch of hd remasters of games already in hd and a bunch of ports to go along with it.

Yeah I ordered a PS4 since my brother took his with him. I felt bad as soon as I did it, but it is the only way for me to play Street Fighter V and Mortal Kombat XL, that I also ordered, then I'll get Tekken 7, The King Of Fighters XIV, Gran Turismo Sport, and Ace Combat 7 when they come out.
I'm not going to spend $1,500 in a monstrous looking gaming PC. If they were small then I would had skip the PS4 altogether, but I can't stand the size gaming PCs have nowadays. They make me feel like I live in 1998. It is ridiculous.

I spent $751 on my gaming PC and I need to upgrade it so I can play fallout 4. Have to play that as I am a die hard fallout fan. I chose that as my next gen system alongside my handhelds. I just hate the all digital aspect of it but unfortunately it has to be done that way because that's the only thing that works for PC gamers. I'd only buy one of these new systems for the exclusives and thats it.

What does downloading patches/updates and internet connectivity have to do with CONSOLES? Maybe it has to do with games and games developers? I disagree, 7th gen didn't get all the awesome games until 08. It seems like i'm the only one that is happy with my PS4 purchase. Maybe because i didn't expect much? At the end its just a hobby, not something to live for.

@fsfxii If it helps, I'm happy with my PS4 purchase as well I think the differences between PC/Xbox/PS are certainly less pronounced in this generation. I think for me it was mostly the controller design and preference for a few exclusive franchises that had me pick a PS4 over an XBox One. Nothing wrong with PC either, but since I mostly use a laptop that might be described as a low-end gaming machine, I often don't use it for the same games that I play on consoles.

I will start a physical collection for the PS4, but this time I promised myself I will only buy games I actually care a lot for. I already spend too much on my PS3 so I don't want to go that route again on the new console. Only essentials for me, and by that I mean games I know I will spend many hours playing. Amazon says it's coming on Wednesday so I will see how I feel after everything is installed and running.

@imperial Khador All consoles became soulless around the 7th generation, they simply became copycats of each other, and the only thing different from one another is what they call "Exclusives" which are sometimes less than games when it comes to Playstation lol Maybe it has to do with an industry stabilizing, compared to the 90s when gaming was still something new. stratogustav going digital with PS4 is the same as physical, because the entire game is installed onto your harddrive, only difference is when you delete a physical game, you can install it any minute, while with digital you must redownload everything.

I agree, it's really tedious. And I find it downright insulting that I need the console connected to the internet just to play games properly via patches. Ohhh, how I loathe patches. I feel your pain, lukefonfabre388. Modern gaming doesn't appeal to me at all.

I still haven't completed Darius Burst Another Chronicle (Chronicle Saviors). I have it on Steam and I'm still playing it since December. But I just saw a video on Astebreed and it looks like a game I will definitely like. I will probably get it on Steam as well.

Lets see consoles of today have no personality, have to download patches and dlc to get a complete game, no more just popping the game in and playing now you have to install it first. Glad I switched to PC just hate the all digital aspect of it. Don't like having my games tied to a service that I dont know if its still going to be there 20 years from now. They have less bullshit to deal with but they still got some.

I had never hear about it, then I saw it being discounted along with other doujin games on Steam, watched a trailer that looked impressive and bought it. I never do impulse buys like this one, but I certainly don't regret it: the game is truly great.

I think most complaints expressed here are unfounded. On the Ps side quality has been improving in general. Ps1 was that "don't touch or it will break" deal, I've never seen a console last over 3 years, and the game library made N64 and Saturn look better; it was just a delicate box that like the Saturn was meant to be played by japanese kids, not western ones. Ps2 was even more delicate (there's video footage of Xbox and GC beating it hard in terms of built quality), with loading times and performance related to third-party products being abysmal; luckly the library didn't suck. Ps3, released in 2006 got its first good game in 2007, so only one year gap there, fsfsxii; I don't know about built quality but since the controllers are horrible I assume it shouldn't be high, but performance is way better, often times hindered only because developers preferred to develop under the more familiar Xbox/PC structure, not because the system itself wasn't capable. I think the first good big game released for Ps4 was in 2015 (exclusing Ps3 and Vita games here for reasonability), so a 2 year gap, not that bad; I don't know about its built quality or how things will go from here, but it should be better than Ps3 in terms of general quality. As for some bullet points: - Installing games is great because during the Ps2 era loading times were crazy and games didn't even look good to begin with; native Ps3 games both look better and load faster than Ps2 ones in general; - Patches are good because games can realistically improve; it's easy to forget but there were games plagued by design mistakes that were never fixed, and patching could and has changed that a little, save for cases in which the publisher decided to not fix a game. - The lack of exclusive games on consoles is somewhat of an illusion, they're there, I'm sorry, it's more about not wanting to look at them than anything else.
