I have never heard of this edition, but I find its influence interesting.

So... some Chinese knockoff was the precursor to the ‘turbo’ concept, and possibly the origin of the character switch mechanic too...? And we have a Western fanboy to thank for getting Capcom to make the changes official... lol
Actually I played the SNES version of this back in the day... A Hong Kong-made/modified cart I think... It was fun for a while, if only cause the shoryukens could go from one end of the screen to the other. Could never be taken seriously tho, and sure enough, was quickly forgotten when the proper SFII Turbo rolled around (which in turn was replaced by ‘Super’...)

I heard about this before. Very fascinating stuff.
What's interesting is that these kind of developments ultimately took Street Fighter into 2 different series, the Zero series which is the over the top Marvel Vs. Capcom one, and the one less flashy which is the main series.

But isn't the Alpha/Zero series supposedly a prequel to the main series?

i knew about rainbow edition or crazy edition it's called sometimes back in like 93/94. saw the arcade cabinet a couple of times back then as well. didn't know it was a rom hack until many years later.
it's interesting for a couple of minutes but then you just want to play the original.

But isn't the Alpha/Zero series supposedly a prequel to the main series? Zero comes before 1, but ultimately gameplay wise is like comparing the Mega Man series with the Mega Man X series. The Zero series is part of the Marvel Vs. Capcom series, just like X-Men Children Of The Atom, and Marvel Super Heroes are. Even if there is no versus there, like X-Men Vs. Street Fighter, or Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter. For Street Fighter there is also the EX series, and the one ups like Street Fighter The Movie, and Street Fighter 2010 that unites it with the Final Fight series. Mega Man also has a Zero series, a ZX series, and Legends.

Where did you see it? I keep on reading about people seeing this pop up and disappearing randomly; however, I never saw it. Back in that era, I used to frequent arcades every few days, yet I never saw it. I'm wondering if it is a coastal thing, since I'm from Chicago. scipioafricanus, did you ever see this edition?

Yeah, I was thinking about the arcades around us as kids, and I swear I never saw one in Aladdin's Castle, Haunted Trails, Western Trails, or Showbiz Pizza. None of the laundromats had them either. It must have been an east coast/west coast thing.
