This week, I want to do a Star Wars WHO DEFEATZ???
In this case, a poll about ROTJ's OST:
Yub Nub (AKA "Ewok celebration" theme, the original music heard at the end of the theatrical version of ROTJ):
VS
the ROTJ Special Edition ending celebration theme, which replaced Yub Nub in the special edition of ROTJ:
A classic debate among Star Wars fans, as this special edition change is often regarded as one of the better, if not THE best, changes Lucas made to the OT films. Do you agree that the updated SE theme is superior to Yub Nub? Or do you prefer Yub Nub?

yes i completely agree that the special addition version was way better in that it felt like an epic send off ware as the original sounded kind of goofy and didn't fit the scene.

I absolutely agree with you, Bogard. This added theme is by far my absolute favorite special edition change, and in fact this may be my single favorite track in the entire franchise, which is a hell of a statement. Yub Nub on the other hand was an incredibly weak musical track to end the OT (or the entire franchise, depending on whether or not you consider the sequel trilogy canon) on. Not fitting at all. |

John Williams must've been drunk or something when he composed that stuff back in '83...   I believe I've said it before, but for the most part I have no problem SWSEs -including their various questionable additions-, save for two altered scenes: Han shooting first& Bring my shuttle
In case there's anyone who underplays the importance of "Bring my shuttle", there is a nice video proclaiming why it's arguably the pivotal moment in the entire original trilogy.Other than those two, I'm good. I won't cling to the past just for the sake of it. By that token I have to say the new music was a better fit for an epic conclusion too. And I also kinda like Hayden appearing at the end, if for nothing else than series continuity.
Given that 'Solo' has established that Han shoots first in the Disney canon, we can likely expect to see yet another 'Disney cut' of the original flims somewhere down the line... And with them possibly another new ending composition...?  |

Yub Nub wins so easy, there's no competition. The new one is boring, lifeless, feels out of place and doesn't feel like a good ending or celebration of what has just happened in the story at all. The SPecial Edition ending was one of the biggest disappointments for me, along with the sarlacc pit CG dildo and the rancor fight green screen cut in, all ruined with stupid new garbage. I like a lot of the new stuff they added in the special editions but these things were by far the worst.

I like the End Celebration better of course. But one thing here is weird. The End Celebration theme came before the special editions. I own the LaserDisc set called The Definitive Edition, and that is the last version that was made before the Special Editions, and I can swear it's not Yub Nub.

There's the "revised" dance number at Jabba's in Special RotJ - the original one is nice and sets the atmosphere, but the music in the special edition is loud, has an annoying voice and is generally unfitting and out of nowhere. |
