I thought now would be the right time to talk about what sets the Halo games apart from other FPS series. In other words, what makes Halo great?
Here are the aspects about Halo that I admire most and think are what sets it apart from other FPS games:
-No looking down sights of guns
-No sprinting
-High, floaty jumps (sort of like moon gravity)
-Wide variety of vehicles
-Meleeing (with any weapon)
-Strong physics system
-semi slow gameplay
and
-science fiction feel with outer space/other world feel (obviously)
So, what do you guys think? Am I missing any key gameplay features that are unique to the Halo series?

The shield system is pretty important since you don't die that quickly as you would in COD or BF. You have some time to reatc, stafe and shoot back to get the upperhand again. That is why it's possible to become really good in Halo.
Also all the different gametypes that you just don't see in other shooters. Just to name a few: Headhunter, Stockpile, Juggernaut, Grifball, Shotty Snipers etc.
Forge is basically a standard map tool that everyone can use, amazing!

Ahhh, yes! How could I forget about the iconic rebounding shield health system. You're totally right, that's easily one of the most iconic gameplay features of the Halo series.
And yeah, there are definitely a lot of unique multiplayer modes, like oddball for example.
Can you think of any other key features of the Halo games not found in other FPS series?

Ahhh, yes! How could I forget about the iconic rebounding shield health system. You're totally right, that's easily one of the most iconic gameplay features of the Halo series. And yeah, there are definitely a lot of unique multiplayer modes, like oddball for example. Can you think of any other key features of the Halo games not found in other FPS series? It has a pretty strong sci-fi universe with a lot of lore and expanded universe books/comics. |

Not that it really needs to distinguish itself, this genre is famed for the generic games, anyway.
