Spooky Film Discussion of the Week: Manos - The Hands of Fat

This is something I would have expected from cobretti. I've begun watching it, even though it's only 1 hour and 15 minutes, it is absolutely atrocious.

"Everything is incoherent: music and sound starts and stops arbitrarily, the dubbing is shite, the camera cuts whenever it feels like and there is no continuity from shot to shot. The whole thing is just bizarre to watch. I have watched a lot of shit over the years, but this might be the worst at a technical level. It is certainly not the absolute worst due to the sheer entertainment and curiosity I get from it. The music is actually pretty good (it is really rocking). Unfortunately they only have two and a half songs, and they use every waking second, and they sort of sound like ear rape towards the end, but the good kind. It is a good metaphor for this movie as a whole, it is a cinematic rape-fest, the good kind." 0.5/5

I enjoyed this movie, it was very odd and the facts behind it were interesting, like how it was shot entirely with a handheld camera that had a 32 second limit for each shot and no sound recording so the entire movie was dubbed by two men and a woman after it was filmed, and how the guy who played Torgo, the character with weird legs, committed suicide later the same year in October of 1966.

I give it a 5/5

The actress who played Debbie, the little girl, made a sequel called Manos Returns earlier this year btw. I wanna see that movie.

Thanks for suggesting this, Spirit Bomb! I had a lot of fun watching it. It's terrible.



Like Armored Core Raven, I find the story behind this movie to be fascinating. According to the rest of the cast, Torgo was also tripping on acid throughout the production. It shows. RIP

I guess someone saw Manos and thought, how can I make this even worse? Puppets, of course!
