I've been worrying about this for a while now. I love my 360 and there are many great 360 games that I have yet to play, but pretty much every AAA title from the 7th gen requires a patch to be functional. Once the online service for the 360 finally gets shut down once and for all, how will I download the integral patches I need to play these games properly? I need answers. Please.
Do you guys see why I hate post 6th gen console generations so much?? I mean, fuck.

Well I don't think they will shut it down for some years since the Xbox One is backwards compatible now, would just backfire if they got rid of that feature this early. As for when it shuts down, you can hook your 360 up to your computer and download shit from websites that'll probably upload all dlc's and updates.

How does that work? What do I use to hook up my 360 to a computer? I think now would be a good time to summon Cervantes , who seems to know everything when it comes to computers. I would like as much input and info on this topic as possible.

Well, I've got squat.
Seriously, on PC you have all kinds of workarounds, but consoles are closed systems, so it won't be that easy to figure out how to get patches without the servers.
I know people figured a way to do that with Dreamcast games, but I don't think it will be that easy for the 360/PS3 and current consoles.

Cervantes well people have been modding their 360 since it came out. So adding DLCs and updates shouldn't be that hard I think.

Wow, really? You'd have to mod your 360 just to get patches you need to play the game properly? So stupid. But thank you, Cervantes for providing that link.

We live in the day and age where you can just plug a thumb drive into your consoles to install firmware. It wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft just does that in the end.
I'm more concerned with what they are going to do with all the Xbox Live Indie Games, since they require you to be connected to Xbox Live for the game to even run.

You don't have to be online to play digital games on the console you originally bought the games on. So if you have several you can change what console is your "home console" then you can play all your digital games on that offline.

They save like data. I recently got the latest patch for PES 2014 through torrent because the severs for updates were shut down last September.
I had it before through the console, but when I upgraded my internal hard drive to 1.5TB I had to start from scratch and since the patch was not available through the console anymore, I had to use a flash USB memory and copy and paste it from the Internet.

Actually, the Indie Games require you to be signed into Xbox Live or they will not load. It's something that Microsoft doesn't directly tell you before you buy them. Supposedly, because the ESRB does not rate the indie games, there is some sort of loophole by making them online as online content is supposedly ever-changing by the people who play them. To me, it just sounds like a lame excuse to enforce DRM. But give it a try on your system. They won't load unless you're logged in. However, you can log out once the game has started. Precursor to the ORIGINAL Xbox One plans.
