Has anyone ever played this series? This is a pretty great series. I really like it. My favorites are overture and black plague. I like overture because of the setting and black plague because of the atmosphere and setting. I have not played requiem that much so I can't comment on that one. Thoughts?

I never heard of them. What genre is that?

Wikipedia listed it as survival horror. Thats what I originally thought too.

Oh OK, so they are like Fatal Frame, Silent Hill, The House Of The Dead, or Resident Evil then.

Yeah, I picked up the trilogy for 5 bucks a few years ago.

Oh OK, so they are like Fatal Frame, Silent Hill, The House Of The Dead, or Resident Evil then. They are definitely in the same genre, but Penumbra is closer to Amnesia (made by the same developers) or Alien: Isolation, in that it's in first-person and features almost no combat - actually, Penumbra: Black Plague is kind of the pioneer in this style of "no combat, first-person, survival horror" mix. Also, they are some of the very few games that do the Lovecraft stuff right. The first Penumbra could be great, if it weren't for the combat bits. Oh man, the dogs... But I really liked the story, and it was certainly scary. I waited for years to play the game, as I had played the tech-demo made before and it seemed promising. Then I got the game, and it lived up to my expectations. But if you don't like Overture, don't worry: the sequel, Black Plague, fix all the problems of the original. They got rid of the combat, kept up the quality of the story and introduced some seriously creepy parts. The third game, on the other hand, is totally lacking. It's a short puzzle game kinda inspired by Portal, and it was released just to keep the studio afloat while they made Amnesia. It doesn't add anything important to the story and has a completely different gameplay, as it isn't even a survival horror game. By the way, I haven't played SOMA (another spiritual successor by the same developers) yet, as last year I was too busy getting killed by the xenomorph in Alien: Isolation. It'll probably be my Halloween 2016 game. Do you played it, luke? Is it as great as their other games?

I've played Amnesia which I liked but was a little disappointed in it hearing it's one of the best horror games ever. I still need to try the Penumbra games which I have sitting in my Steam backlog.
