My son and I watched this for the first time ever together. I watched it when I was his age for the first time as well. He loved it. This is a timeless classic with amazing dialog. Every actor and actress is amazing in this film. I even loved Billy Chrystal's 5 minute cameo. Of course, I have to share the best trash talking of the movie here: Humperdinck: First things first... To the death! Westley: No. To the pain. Humperdinck: [stops, ataken back] I don't think I'm quite familiar with that phrase. Westley: I'll explain, and I'll use small words so that you'll be sure to understand, you warthog-faced buffoon. Humperdinck: That may be the first time in my life a man has dared insult me. Westley: It won't be the last. "To the pain" means the first thing you lose will be your feet, below the ankles, then your hands at the wrists. Next, your nose. Humperdinck: [exasperated] And then my tongue, I suppose. I killed you too quickly the last time, a mistake I don't mean to duplicate tonight. Westley: I wasn't finished! The next thing you lose will be your left eye, followed by your right— Humperdinck: [losing his patience] ...And then my ears, I understand! Let's get on with it— Westley: WRONG! Your ears you keep, and I'll tell you why: So that every shriek of every child at seeing your hideousness will be yours to cherish. Every babe that weeps at your approach, every woman who cries out, "Dear God, what is that thing?" will echo in your perfect ears. That is what "to the pain" means. It means I leave you in anguish, wallowing in freakish misery forever. Humperdinck: [cautious] I think you're bluffing. Westley: It's possible, Pig, I might be bluffing. It's conceivable, you miserable, vomitous mass, that I'm only lying here because I lack the strength to stand. Then again... perhaps I have the strength after all. [slowly rises and points his sword directly at the prince] Drop. Your. Sword.
This is one of those movies that are timeless. I think people will love this movie a century from now and not bat an eye at the minimal special effects. Great movie. A+

A true mark of a good movie: anyone of any age can watch it and enjoy it.

Andre The Giant was a great Brute Squad member. He died way too young. I would have loved to have seen him in more films.

I read on Wikipedia that he was so weakened by a back injury that they had to use cables for the scene where he carries Buttercup to support the actresses' weight. I guess as time went on his immense size really became a burden. RiP.

Oh man, what a great movie. It has a lot of very memorable lines, it's full of interesting characters and every actor is truly good in it. I mean, how awesome is it when Montoya keeps saying his phrase louder and louder until he builds up his confidence again and finally enacts his revenge? And then ends the duel by finally saying I want my father back, you son of a bitch. Talk about a well written, acted and directed moment. This is the best cape-and-sword movie ever made.

Nah man, I have plans to watch it one day though TM. I don't own it (yet) and it's not streaming on any of the service I subscribe to. I've heard a lot of good things about it. I've watched 371 movies this year so far, but you know, no matter how many movies I watch, there are still plenty that I've missed.

In my head for some reason, I had a thought that every kid from a certain age on probably had seen it. I don't even know why I thought that. I suppose that's why I had my kids watch it.
