As you guys know I have a strange obsession with early-to-mid 2000s PC exclusives like Far Cry as well as some ambitious earlier titles from the late 90s/early 2000s like Hitman Codename 47 and Jurassic Park Trespasser. In addition to these, there are also many PC exclusives like BREED and Devastation that are only available in physical form and have DRM which makes them unplayable on any Windows OS later than Vista.
Luckily, my local radio shack sells refurbished PCs & laptops, often with older OS like 8, 8.1, 7, and Vista already installed.
In this thread I want to talk about Vista in particular, since from what I've read DRM like safedisc and all versions of Securom still work on it, which would allow me to play these elusive old PC exclusive games that aren't available digitally. However, I remember hearing that Vista was a very controversial OS, although I don't know specifically why.
So that leads me to my question: if I bought a refurbished PC with Vista to play old games, should I expect to encounter any problems or roadblocks? Are there any issues with Vista that I should know about? Has anyone here used Vista before?
Help please.

For DRM Windows 7 Pro is the answer, but I have no idea how long those OS will hold up overall with how the Internet evolves overtime. With 7 Pro you should be fine a bit more is my guess.

If you have Steam, don't. Valve are discontinuing support for XP and Vista in the new year.
However, recently I heard they've modified Steam so Linux users have a wider range of games to play. Which is good, because my Sega titles weren't playable Linux before.

Which is good, because my Sega titles weren't playable Linux before. I couldn't care less about Steam. And like I said, I would buy this machine just to play older physical PC games. I wouldn't use it for internet at all, which includes Steam. Thanks for the tip though.
