It is not uncommon nowadays to pick up games with no game over screens. They aren't really practical, you can just make a screen asking the player whether the game will continue or not, or you can skip that and respawn the player character as fast as possible. But this topic isn't about those games! This topic is about those screens that made you consider your whole life up to that moment in space-time! What are your most memorable game overs?
So, my most feared game over screen is this one:
It was quick, wasn't it? It feels like an eternity to me. That is the game over screen that has made me the most uncomfortable. Not sure if the mix of wording and ambient, or a mix of those 2 with whatever got me there, or even a repressed memory. I highly doubt someone can post a game over screen that terrifies me more than this one.

The Star Fox "game over" screen was particularly devastating to me as a kid.

The game over screen from F-22 interceptor, where it shows a bunch of doctors at the operating table, and your heart monitor flat-lining.

That Majora's Mask scene where young Link gets obliterated by the fiery inferno caused by the crashing moon is downright EPIC. And disturbing too. That one has always stood out amongst the countless other game over screens I've seen.

Can't stand the modern Tomb Raider ones. Press start immediately for the retry cause I can't bear to watch the cost of my failure... (look them up yerself if you want to see, I didn't want to for how averse I am to them) fsfsxii - That' not really a game over screen !... You can't die there... or can you...?

I actually agree, it was really clever. My favorite is, even though its not a game over screen is the Hideo channel in MGS1/4

Best villianous laugh ever. When I was a kid I used to put the game cd in the audio player to hear tracks from the game. Some times I would forget to skip the track for that laughter and I'd be scared even without the videogame context.

You beat me to it :c Ah well, I'll post my runner-up God damnit just hearing that music reminds me of all the times I died in that game (And the times it actually managed to make me ragequit) Edit: just remembered the game over screens from I wanna be the Guy and variants, my god those are infuriating.
