Nothing against gaming in general, I love games but don't the questions about it always revert to something akin to:
1. rarity 2. skill level 3. spending
It's not other's expectations but your own. If I could put it in one word, that word would be "insatiable."

The topic is quite vague, could you explain further?

He means gaming is superficial in what it boils down to, and presumably because it's not being beneficial to anyone other than entertaining yerself...
But there are some benefits garnered from gaming that can be generalized and useful in real life. Perseverence is one. Planning another. And looking at any challenge in life as just being another problem to be solved (i.e just like in a game) is one of the more beneficial takeaways...

It's a hobby, do they have to be productive? Most hobbies aren't and nobody bats an eye if people have skiing as their hobby.

Well one benefit i can recall from video games is that it taught me english, and it did a very good job at it.

I also learned english through video games, so there's that.
Also, as any art form, video games are capable of communicating cultural values that may broaden one's view of the world (I learned a lot of japanese and american cultural values while playing).

Ah, so my drunken vagueness undoubtedly caused some confusion. I taught myself German and to better read simplified Japanese by playing Pokémon so I understand it as a language device. I also understand the Pathos appeal. And then there is the reflex aspect. I actually don't know what I was trying to insinuate but some things that always seem to be perpetuated by the Youtube personas is collecting the most valued titles as trophy pieces. I have no idea what I was on about the skill level bit and kind of wish I remembered ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

Games should be played, not left on the shelf to collect dust.
Games are there to entertain and challenge you, and make you temporarily forget your hassles, unless they really were made to educate you.

I'd feel bad if me playing videogames converted into benefit for anyone other than myself.

I have no idea what I was on about the skill level bit and kind of wish I remembered This is certainly an agreeable point: if you go by most Youtube personas, video games are just these collectable little vanity trophies. Luckily, it seems we all can see more than that in the hobby! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)
