You don't hear about new N64 releases anymore. I think I'd probably throw down the cash and buy one if they make a Nintendo 64 cartridge.

The N64 library is relatively small, so new games are totally welcomed for it. I'm glad they are finishing what they started. That's always a good thing.

I would love to get the Nintendo 64 HDMI upgrade, but that is expensive as hell. I still will give this a try though.

And it's not a racing or sports game - mein gott! Or a shoot 'em up! Why are like 99 percent of independent games on obsolete systems shooters? I mean any praise goes to these developers, but I wonder what the reason is.

From the image it looks more like a hack & slash Thundercats game.
The N64 needs mofe shmups though. It is the best genre.

I'll have to disagree with you on the shoot 'em ups. I respect the genre, but I just can't get into bullet hell games.
I do love Robotron for the 64. Does that semi count?

bullet hells are to shmups what manager games are to the sports genre, not exactly the best subgenre to pick as a representative of the genre as a whole

I suppose you're right. I cede to your point. It just isn't my thing though. They're a little intimidating at first, but once you get into them, they are pure gold. I feel it is the same phenomenon people experience with Souls games nowadays. Shmups are the highest priced and regarded game genre in every legacy system there is, including the arcades. The N64 is the only one missing out in that regard, but the reason is that the N64 was more of a FPS machine with giant western controllers that handled 3D better than the competitors, and didn't want 2D games to taint that image. It is a shame indeed.
