I chose this movie/album because it is controversial in nature, and I'm really interested in what the pub thinks. If you can let go of the obsession stoner's have with this movie, you can see nothing but raw emotion in each and everyone of the songs. I personally think the issues his mother and his wife are annoying, but they help develop the deep issues involved with the main character. Many people are obsessed with World War II, but they never talk about the effects it had on the tens of millions of families who lost a loved one in the war. Combine that with the lunacy of the promotional world of general managers in the world of the post 1950s rock and roll era, broken (unrequited? fake?) love, drugs, and a fascination with fascism, and then you see a man who is loved by millions descend into lunacy. The very controversial Gerald Scarfe animated portions of this film brilliantly, and his morphing images portray a myriad of deep emotional issues that many people in general have to deal with in life, and they transcend the generations perfectly.
Although I disagree with some of the aspects to the moral of the story (He has a serious issue with women, and he blames too many of his problems on them. I really think he should take responsibility for many of his actions himself.), I can appreciate this as a movie, an album, and a work of art. It is deep and heartfelt, and it is a damn shame that many stoners have claimed it for sole purpose of trippin' balls.

it is a damn shame that many stoners have claimed it for sole purpose of trippin' balls. That’s true of all of progressive rock.

This is hands down the best musical movie ever made. Not only is it based on one of the absolute best albums ever recorded, but it's also a really fucking good movie. So many emotions and symbols scattered throughout. The animation segments are awesome and very iconic. I could watch this any day, and I should rewatch it since it's been a while. I own this on LaserDisc, and my dad doesn't care for LaserDiscs, and won't watch any of them with me due to having no subtitles and that it's not as high def, but this is the exception.

stratogustav It's more like a music video compilation spliced together to tell a story. dschult3 It's because his mother was all Pink had after his father died in the war. She couldn't let Pink be a boy or a man and had to coddle him and protect him*. Anyways, childhood is a sensitive time for development. Women only know how to be women. Pink wanted a father, someone he could relate to more. Remember the scene where child Pink tried to walk off with his friends father but got brushed aside? *Side note: That was probably as a response to losing his father. If that's what it is, I can relate. I always listen for signs of Mum doing something, because they mean she hasn't suddenly gone off to join my father in the next world. And we've had a few health scares, so I want to make sure she takes care of herself better these days. Last week, I took her out for dinner and she had something that didn't look really healthy (chicken and chips with gravy) while I had the satay cashew rice salad. She called me up the next morning and said she had vertigo. Damn it, Mum!
