I don't know that I've ever seen the original TV movie, and I only remember bits of the TV series, but definitely nice whenever Matt Frewer pops up in anything.

It was really nice of you posting the whole movie. This is a rare one. I never heard of it before.

Balder Yeah, I've done that. I was going to add a review as well, when I'm feeling energetic.

Hey, it's not like I got a full job description or any pre-training for this! Sticky? Huh?
Anyway, here's that review:
Max Headroom is an icon of the 80's, much like Classic Sonic is an icon of the 90's. He's been in ads, interview shows, music shows, even his own crappy Christmas special. But it all started out with his back story. This is it.
In a non-specific time the future, TV has taken over like the internet has today. The biggest TV channel is Network 23 and they a secret, but their star reporter Edison Carter (Frewer) is onto them. On behalf of the Zik Zak Corporation , they've created super compressed commercials that apparently cause some viewers to explode.
Sneaking into his employers' building, Edison finds damning evidence, but is seriously knocked unconscious and while trying to escape. Determined to find out what he knows and mask his absence, they decided to try to upload his consciousness into the computer and create a digital body.
Max is weird to look at. The character himself wasn't CGI, he was our boy Matt Frewer in some prosthetics. They recorded him talking at a lower frame rate and stuttering like a lag spike, against a blue screened CGI background.
The TV series that followed was quite prophetic. It predicted (perhaps indirectly) the internet, digital TV, Direct Denial Of Service attacks, corporations watching their viewers through the TV (it's true, according to Edward Snowden), courtroom TV (we have Judge Judy and her ilk), corporate espionage, indie channels (like on Youtube), people off the grid and, of course, CGI characters and AI. Whoever wrote theses shows were either geniuses or time travelers.
But, like the movie, Max's wisecracks aren't as funny as they would've been in the 80's. Also, since we are in a time which could be considered around the time the movie is set, it seems a little dated. This is meant to be '20 minutes into the future' but it's made in the 80's, where VHS tapes and computers that ran on Dorito Chip's were king. Also, it's scientifically impossible for ads to blow people up. A more plausible explanation would be fatal seizures.
Anyway, this piece of cyberpunk is not to be missed by anyone into the genre.

I watched this, was not overly impressed, but it was not bad:
"Interesting piece of TV history. It has a cool setting and I like the production design quite a bit (Blade Runner is my favorite film so this should not be a surprise). The film itself is kind of meh, and I have a hard time concentrating on it as it is not the most exciting thing ever. I guess it is a nostalgia piece for those who watched it back in the day. It is by no means bad or terrible, just a little bit forgettable." 2.5/5

I was going to link the pilot to the TV series in this post, but the series has been removed from YT. Pity, I recorded the episodes onto VHS tapes (for extra 80's-ness) which have since been casualties of 'the purge'.
But here's a documentary instead.
