There are so many options in the market that it comes down to content. Gear VR has virtually no content and the 360 videos are low resolution, but the porn is outstanding and it has decent image quality, also the movie theater app is really good. I like the Netflix app too. It's 100% wireless and that's a plus too.
Oculus has more content and soon more resolution, plus the Facebook possibilities will bring a lot of people.
HTC Vive has name recognition. Valve working on it makes people think of Portal and that helps it.
For me Sony's it will come down to the games. Because sure is convinient, you already have the console, the controls and you don't need to buy an expensive computer or phone, but if you are not hyped for the content, then who cares.
I'm already sold with the announces of Gran Turismo Sport, Tekken 7, and Ace Combat 7. People is talking about No Man's Sky as well.
That's enough reason to me to get it because I know what VR can do with those games and it excites me. But people that don't have a clue about VR and don't like those games have no reason to get it.
A few percentage of the population is very delicate physically to these technologies. They may experience dizziness, fusiness, and discomfort, just like they did with 3D.
This is the same thing, it is a 3D 360 video with a gyroscope functionality, that's all. So these people will hate it regardless of the content, and I wouldn't blame them. You have to like it otherwise what's the point.
I say Sony's may be more game oriented but the possibilities outside of gaming are vast. Even with the low res Gear VR I can be in an Air Force Jet plane, a rollercoaster, inside a racing card, visiting another country, in the front row of a fashion event, inside an animated Pixar style movie, in a concert, getting a lap dance, etc. all within an hour without leaving the house.
It is a little scary too because once the technology becomes more accessible people will use this like a TV or a computer and become addicted, and I don't know how good the consequences of that can be, specially since you can just use your phone for it.

I haven't been able to try VR yet so for right now, I sorta feel like PhantasmaStriker but those who've used it only have good things to say about it. I guess it all depends on if the price goes down.

The novelty of VR wears off really fast, not as fast as stereoscopic "3D" but still fast enough that I'd never pay any substantial amount of money for it.

The thing is that these technologies wear off because they are betas, they are not the final product.
3D still needs glasses or be positioned in a certain angle. VR has a mix of 3D 360 videos and 2D 360 videos, the 2D ones make the VR experience look bad.
Some videos like the porn have decent image quality but most other videos are with very low resolution. Plus most of theses headsets are still wired and expensive too.
Once they pass these little inconveniences a lot more people will jump in for sure. But that could take years.
I predict they will also bring motion controllers back, maybe even the power glove.

So that's why you have a VR Headset eh?... On the topic... Uh, maybe not so much... They've pretty much admitted it's inferior to the higher end Oculus. Something about being more of an accessible mass market device or other. Maybe good as a TV alternative... if you can tolerate the inevitable neck strain over long periods. Btw, why didn't' they just keep the 'Morpheus' name?...

So that's why you have a VR Headset eh?... Funny enough I got it for the movie theater app alone, I already have a real 135 inch projector screen in my house to watch movies, but when I saw the 750 inches virtual screen at the demo in Best Buy I was sold. They also come with a smaller 200 inch home theater, and both versions have a really nice setup with very comfy leather seats. I also liked the idea that it was wireless and that I could just use my Bluetooth headset and be set. However when I got home and I started looking for content I found they had porn for it, and holy crap, when comparing to the other VR experiences porn has by far the best image quality. Most MilkVR videos look 240p to 360p when stretched, but the porn goes from 640p to 720p, a massive improvement. By the way when I refer to these numbers the actual videos may have more pixels in both cases, but when I say those numbers I mean how you actually perceive then. Because the videos are circular or stretched a 640p video may look 480p or something similar to that. The other thing is the 3D, the porn has really good 3D like in your face type of stuff, some MilkVR content has that, but rarely in your face, and many others are simple 2D 360 videos, which honestly look really bad. Most porn is shot in 180 degrees while most MilkVR videos are full 360 and the porn still wins. I highly recommend it. Funny enough now is actually hard to go back to the old formats. I also recommend the Netflix app on it, it is very decent because it is set during the late afternoon or early morning, so even if you are in the middle of the night it still feels like you are during the day watching, and the screen is not bad, it looks at least like a 100 inch screen. It's specially good when you are out travelling. In your house you may as well just use your normal TV and watch the 4K Netflix content, the VR does not have that kind of power yet.

I suppose I had better try it for myself then!
