Yeah, yeah, this thread is two days early. Whatever. Today/tonight, we will look at one of the most iconic villians in history. Seriously, who in the first world doesn't know who he is? And what for? Because I read a couple of graphic novels today about Darth Vader. He's sent on the trail of the one who blew up the Death Star and discovers that it was his own son, despite being told by Palpatine that Padme died by his hand. What I gleaned is the story is that, despite how high-ranking and strong with the force he was, Darth Vader was the Emperor's slave and too weak to defy him. The Emperor also has no qualms about replacing Vader, and even had a few potential replacements lined up even before the duel with Obi-Wan on Mustafar (the lava planet). So, as far as fallen saviours go, how does DV rank up?

Best villain of all time. So iconic that you'll only have to hear his breathing to recognize him. He's endlessly quotable. Coolest character in all of Star Wars, which is saying a lot. He never had a bad moment in his film career, and his character arc is the classical rise, fall and redemption perfected. It's character such as this that is worth discussing, not some unknown background character with no lines.

A classic villain no doubt. Tall, daunting, authoritative, quotable, and even sympathetic to an extent. He has all the traits I look for in a great movie villain, and his design is of course iconic as well. So 5/5 for me. Even though his character was trashed a bit in Episode II & III, he's still first-rate. centipede can I ask what the name of the graphic novels are?

It was these two: There's more where they came from. BTW that protocol droid at the back? His name is Triple Zero and he likes to torture people. Incidentally, 000 is the emergency number in Australia. So, if you're trapped in a room with Triple 0, it's an emergency!

Ah, on a side note, Peter Mayhew, who wore the Chewbacca costume, recently passed away.
Fun fact: when they were shooting the Endor scenes, he was told not to wander into the forest because they didn't want any bigfoot sightings.

That big foot thing is funny though.

You know the scene in Empire Strikes Back where Darth Vader asks Luke to join him? He said that they could rule the galaxy together. That can't have been an entirely empty promise. I think he needed Luke's help with overthrowing the Emperor. But it was only when the the Emperor was killing Luke at the end of Return of the Jedi did he finally get the resolve to rebel. At that point, he fulfilled the prophecy of bringing balance to the force. He started when betrayed the Jedi then he betrayed the Emperor, bringing both light and dark sides back to the stage one.

VIII is honestly, quite frankly, undoubtedly, absolutely a real piece of fucking shit.

dschult3 It's just that I scored the Thrawn trilogy (Heir to the Empire/Dark Force Rising/The Last Command) by Timothy Zahn from an op shop a few days ago, and I want to use these books as a substitute for the Disney trilogy. Now, the blurb for book 3 mentions clone soldiers. Problem is, this was written in 1993, well before Episode 2 was even scripted, so I may need to forget everything I know about Episode 2 to make it work. That's my concern.

I would like to keep the books in the book world. No more movies are necessary. Hollyweird messes everything up. Leave the fan fiction community and the expanded alone so they can bask in the world their imagination has created.
