I'm not here to rag on top ten videos, at least not yet. I'm hear to bring up the ethics of major YouTube channels using content of other content creators. WatchMojo especially is notorious for using Mark's footage without permission. Hell, they did it again just a few hours ago. ![]() And it isn't just Mark whose been effective. A satirical short story I wrote has been read by a million plus Youtuber to the tune of half a million views. at least that person was nice of enough to give me credit for writing it, but nothing more than that. Just a short while ago a top ten channel used images that I took of a children's book that I had as a kid. I don't really care about the latter, since it wasn't my art, but it just seems strange how things go around. I guess this goes back to the whole idea of fair use, but where do you all stand on this issue? |

This is perplexing. Why can't they film themselves holding controllers? I can't believe how many times they "borrowed" clips from Mark! This just reeks of laziness... Wow.

Wow! That's kind of cool. I mean, it's bullshit that they didn't ask for permission, and I'd be upset in your situation, too. But still, kinda cool. |

You're right, it was cool. Especially that, by the very nature of the person reading it, they validated my intention of writing it. I was mocking a popular subgenre of writing on the internet, and seeing someone (Actually around a dozen people by now) read it on Youtube, not realizing that it was meant to be satirical and taken as a joke, makes me laugh inside. It's funny that they take everything in earnest. It's less funny when I know that, whether or not I care, some kid is making (up to) hundreds of dollars off of it.
I have to much of a meta sense of humor to really care, tho
