At first, I was thinking that I would give this game a hard pass, since I have the Wii U game. How could the sequel add much more to that gem? Well, apparently a lot. After watching the insane amount of options now available, I have changed my mind. I doubt I will get it at launch, but I will definitely own this game at some point in the future. Is anyone else thinking about getting Super Mario Maker 2?

Yes, I'll likely buy it at launch. I love cartridges, so I'm building my Switch collection with things coming out in physical form. This will definitely be a worthy entry to that collection.
Super Mario Maker is one of the biggest entries for Nintendo, so it wouldn't surprise me if the sequel manages a big impact as well. The game is simply too much fun.

It definitely looks great. I don't buy a lot of games new/full price these days, but I think this will likely be an exception.
I like creating Mario Maker levels for my friends' and cousins' kids to play though, and I know a few of them are getting this at release as well.

So along with Mario Maker 2's Nintendo Direct, Ninteno announced this odd Game Voucher promotion.
The idea is that you buy two of these vouchers on the eShop, and they're redeemable for 2 games, with some savings. It is....needlessly complicated compared to something like just a pre-order discount. However, I think I may end up using this for Super Mario Maker 2 and Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
I had planned to get both digitally anyway, and buying both either physically or digitally at launch would total about $181 CDN after taxes...so a fairly significant discount.

I'm happy they are doing this, but since Nintendo uses cartridges it is really hard for me to justify digital copies. I will pass on this offer.

Definitely not something for folks who want physical copies, yeah.
I was just thinking as well. I know Nintendo has announce a special edition capacitive stylus for Japan and Europe. Hopefully it will come out in North America as well, though if I have to spend a few bucks on a 3rd party one, it isn't the end of the world.
(For reference, the Switch uses a capacitive touch screen like phones and tablets, not a resistive touch screen like the Wii U or 3DS, so an older Nintendo Stylus wouldn't work.)
For docked mode though, it would be pretty sweet if they just let you plug a USB mouse (or wifi USB dongle for a mouse) into the dock and use that. Would be a great opportunity to release a branded one in the style of the SNES mouse, since Mario Marker already has a ton of Mario Paint callbacks.

I haven't picked up a copy of it yet, (has anyone here done so?) but I saw this today. It looks like hell on Earth. I love and hate it at the same time.

The final major update of this game is awesome! I wish they had it when it first came out. A lot of people are excited about the Super Mario 2 mushroom, but I'm more or less happy with the world builder!

Quick question: is there a compatibility patch you can download, where you can play Mario Maker 2 levels, even if you have MM1 instead?

centipede None that I'm aware of. There are a ton of elements in Mario Maker 2 that aren't present in 1.
