Just got back from negotiating. He said he had several King of Fighter games (aren't they supposed to be pretty good?). He said he had some other stuff to, but he had to go and check (weird). For some reason he didn't specify any price, so I got to wait again. Damn... I'm so tempted, but I think I should try to negotiate a little more. $500 for an AES is really steep. I haven't checked eBay for a while, but that's way more than it was a few years ago. If I were you, I'd look for a consolized MVS instead, assuming you don't have the space for a full cab. The games are way cheaper. In any case, they aren't that rare. You'll always find another one, so don't sweat it if you can't get a good deal. An arcade cabinet is out of the question at the moment because of space. But can't you play MVS games on the AES? Or is it the other way around? I think there's an adapter for that. Anyways, Neo Geos don't come to often around here. And eBay isn't a much better option as I have to deal with customs and international shipping. Besides they are around 250-300 with shipping, and that's just the console without controllers and games. But nothing is decided before he release his pricing.

People hold on to the Neo Geo like a winning lottery ticket around here.

I think I'm just going to let that one go. First of all 500 bucks is expensive for a console. Now I know Neo-Geos are expensive, but there's just so much stuff I can get for 500. Besides I'm now thinking of going for a consolized MVS instead (thanks Dan E. Kool). I don't understand why they're cheaper, but they are. Also the games for the MVS is bearable compared to AES games (like wtf, getting AES games is insanely overpriced). Now the trick with getting a MVS is that they never include controllers. So I'm going to try to go for some auction arcade sticks and see if I'm lucky before ultimately getting crushed by my desire for a MVS and buy one.

The seller wasn't too happy to hear my thoughts. Now he wants me to buy a Neo-Geo CD (because he sells that too). I don't even know what he expects when he doesn't specify any prices, even after I told him I wanted to know his pricing of his "additional" games. Instead he just kept sending me suggestions of games he had, telling me how rare they are without mentioning pricing. These god damn dealers on Craig's list should be banned. MVS is the best and only choice. Fuck the Neo-Geo CD.

This guy just won't let up. Now he has a consolized MSV too all of a sudden. But he wants 600 bucks for it with no games. No way dude, no way.

But can't you play MVS games on the AES? Or is it the other way around? I think there's an adapter for that. Yeah, I've heard of those MVS to AES converters. I'm not sure how well they work, though. Something else: are most of your consoles NTSC or PAL? I only ask because I don't think there are PAL NEO GEOs, which might complicate things for you depending on your current setup. Dan E. Kool Do you see these in the wild? I never do. People hold on to the Neo Geo like a winning lottery ticket around here. True. The die-hard fans don't sell them so easily, but there are also lots of guys who get into NEO GEO without realizing how expensive it really is. Once they see that the games they want are up to several hundred dollars and how rampant and tough to detect the bootlegs are... I'd imagine it can be disheartening. So, there's always sellers. Of AES consoles, anyway.

As for Neo-Geo, they are all region free. No region lock bullshit. Only thing I've got to worry about is having thr right voltage.

Why would they? The arcades aren't tied to PAL and NTSC standards are they? As for modern TVs, they have the same standards now.

I ended up buying a MVS after all. Now I just got to get controllers and some games. Expensive startup price, but much better than buying an AES.

Aha, good to know. Won't the games still run slower, though? Why would they? The arcades aren't tied to PAL and NTSC standards are they? As for modern TVs, they have the same standards now. Arcade machines are generally (if not always, afaik) NTSC. The region encoding isn't a console thing, it's a monitor thing. NTSC runs faster, which is better for gaming with higher frame refresh rates. PAL is/was slower, which is supposedly nicer for the older films of that time. Japan was also using NTSC at the time, so it follows that their arcade machines would be, too. Game systems don't need to be region locked, companies only do that to combat piracy. If a game has to be made differently for each region, piracy is made less profitable for the pirate (argh!). An example is the Sega Genesis. Early Genesis games will run on the Mega Drive, because they weren't coded yet to only run or not in a specific region over another. But the game will appear slower on a PAL television, because it hasn't been optimized for that standard. For that reason, I'd wager the NEO GEO will run noticeably slower on a PAL TV. Of course, none of that matters now that I know you don't have a CRT. Shame on you.

And besides, they're extremely unpractical and heavy.
