I'll say it's right in the middle between the great classics and the weak films done by Romero after this one, so I'll give it a 3.

Now that I think about it, I haven't seen many zombie movies except one British one I can't remember the name, and World War Z.

I was so disappointed with this film even though I knew it wasn't going to be any good. I still had hope for Romero.
"How long does it take to ruin a perfect track record? 20 years apparently. The highly awaited sequel to Day of the Dead, here comes Land of the Dead. Land of the Dead is not a terrible film, but it is definitely one of the most disappointing movies I have ever watched. For me, the original Of the Dead movies (Night, Dawn and Day) are all individually masterpieces. And here comes Land of the Dead which is just like any other zombie movie of the 2000's. It is not even okay, it is simply bad. Super generic characters, almost all of which I cannot stand. The only okay characters were Cholo, the guy with the fucked up eye and the Samoan dude. They were not anywhere close to the iconic characters of any of the previous movies, but they were much better than the villain and the main protagonist. The biggest disappointment of all is of course the transition from practical gore to the terrible digital gore. It looks ridiculous and so god damn cheap. 2005 is not remembered for having digital effects that aged well, so today it looks even worse than what it did back when it came out. The way that they progress the zombies is also lame to me. They are basically just people now. They use tools effectively, have feelings and solidarity. I loved what they did with Bubs in Day of the Dead, but this was just too far for my liking.
What is so disappointing here is that so many other zombie movies have taken the torch from Romero in the 2000's like 28 Days Later and Shaun of the Dead, and here comes Romero and makes a lazy attempt at a next piece in his series. It is simply embarrassing." 2/5.

Why are we discussing horror films in june? Shouldn't we save these for October? There are hundreds of discussion worthy horror movies. We'll gave plenty of more notable ones to discuss for October. I wanted to discuss these as Romero is so important despite making these awful ones.
