I was always surprised how a film with such a stellar all-stars cast didn't deliver as much as the previous Tim Burton Batman movies.
Surprisingly, this also translated to the video games. Until this point games that were made because of previous movies were top tier quality, even the cartoon ones were, but when Batman Forever came out, it surpassed by far the let down of the movie, and that definitely didn't helped the brand.
The film however can still be very nostalgic for many of us, and I wouldn't mind rewatching it after all these years. In fact, I plan to do so, and knowing me, I'm sure I will find a lot of enjoyment doing it.

I really wish there is an alternate reality were we got the third Tim Burton movie as originally planned, with Billy Dee Williams as Two-Face and Marlon Wayans as Robin. As it is... I like Jim Carrey's Riddler and Chris O'Donnel is fine, but Tommy Lee Jones is miscast and Val Kilmer is too wooden. The script and story are incredibly bizarre (much more than even Returns), the tone is a mismatch between Burton and 60s Batman and the visuals went from the Burton's cool, impossible looking expressionism, to a Carnival of garish colors. It's between 1-2/5, I'll go with 2. This movie is less reviled than its sequel, but in theory, I think Batman & Robin should be better as at least it had a more consistent tone: it fully went for a camp style (Dan E. Kool drinks forever in this pub!) , like an update to the 60s Batman. It's a comedy-action film, while Forever sits on this indecisive middle-ground, trying to be a big blockbuster action movie and not commiting to either being serious or a parody. EDIT: As stratogustav pointed out, even the tie-in games were lesser efforts. I played at the time the Saturn port of the arcade beat'em up game, and it was one of those shitty games that Acclaim was releasing at the time. I still had some fun with it (at least it was fast and had a lot of things flashing on the screen), but man, it was so bad.

The first Batman movie I ever watched. It was on TV and I was sleeping over at my cousin's house. We were super excited to watch a Batman movie as neither of us had watched one before. Even back then I was disappointed. It's super campy and not good. Val Kilmer is the worst Batman in my opinion. It's been around 6 or 7 years since I last rewatched it. So a 2/5 from me.

This movie was rancid bat ass. Even watching it as a kid I knew it was objectively pure shit after seeing the Burton Batman flicks. The villains in this one were stupid, over-the-top, annoying-as-fuck cartoon characters, the lighting was horrible (it looked like a recording of a broadway production at times), the dialogue was corny, it just all sucked. I guess the only good thing I can say about it is that I'm one of those few people who think Val Kilmer had the potential to be a decent Batman. But the film overall was shit and I'm glad I never saw Batman and Robin.

Bob Kane thought he was a great Batman and apparently preferred him over Michael Keaton. I thought he was too expressionless, but that might be a problem of how he was directed, as Kilmer himself is not a bad actor. He certainly had potential.

He was robbed of an Oscar nomination (and award) for Doc Holiday in Tombstone.

Val Kilmer is great in other stuff, but he doesn't fit the role of Batman in my opinion. I honestly could see Clooney as a better Batman. It'd be interesting to see how they'd compare if they both had gotten better directing. #WhoDefeatz.

scipioafricanus - Man, I had forgotten about Tombstone! I was mostly remembering him in The Doors, Willow, Top Gun and Heat - he's good in all of them, so I'll blame the directing for his Batman not living up to his potential.

This was my first live action Batman movie that I got to see in theater, as a kid of course I liked it. Even then I didn't like it as much as the Tim Burton movies though, or Mask of the Phantasm(which was my first Batman movie in theater). Now it's a 2/5, back then probably a 3.5/5.

A good friend of mine and I are continuing to watch all of the Batman movies, and now I've rewatched this mess. It's even worse than I remember:
"This is my third watch of this movie, and each time I have rewatched it, there has been a long time in-between, but I distinctly remember from last time that this movie is horrible, but after watching it again now, I can safely say that it is the worst Batman movie of all time. It is entertaining at times, yes, but only because of its ridiculousness. I honestly doubt anyone find this movie cool or genuinely funny. Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones are the most annoying and cringy villains I have seen in a long time. They are to the core awful at what they are trying to achieve. Carrey is at his peak of annoying, and for some reason Jones is trying to keep up with him in hijinks. They are not the only bad characters though as Robin, or should I say Master Dick, is generally bad and Val Kilmer as Batman had me believe Kilmer was a terrible actor for many years until I watched him in Tombstone. For some reason Batman is super horny all the time for Nicole Kidman's character. I am sure they have lots of Batsex after that painful seduce part that took place. The style of the film is so unfitting. Gotham looks awful, especially with all the added CGI. Everyone acts goofy, and not in the Batman '66 way, but in a dumb Looney Tunes way, I hate it. Another minor thing that annoyed me to no end is the awful dubbing. A lot of the talking scenes with Kidman are dubbed, and the quality is comparable to a zero budget film from the 70's. Characters are outside, but the dialogue is clearly recorded in a sound booth. I think this is the last time I watch this mess of a film. I cannot believe they let this guy make another Batman movie, why did not the general audience stop this?" 0.5/5 God awful.

One of the reasons that the Chris Nolan ones were so good... they stripped out all that crab and made it a straight action movie where the guy happens to wear a mask.

It's been even longer since I saw Batman & Robin, and I've only seen it once. But the villains in Forever are so terrible and cringe inducing that Batman & Robin simply wins on walkover because no matter how bad it is, it still has Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze, and that counts for something as I won't be bored when he's on the screen.

Fair enough. I have never seen that one and have no desire to do so.
