Whateves... Still waiting for that Vanquish sequel or something as fast. In my opinion, Vanquish is the true evolution of Contra (or shmups, if you played the Challenges you'd know why..) Fast paced action with non-stop shooting with great mechanics. Also, short shorts!!

The gameplay footage for that Nier game doesn't look too bad.

Fast paced action with non-stop shooting with great mechanics. Also, short shorts!! I haven't even played the first one. So until that happens I cannot yet consider it a Contra, recent Time Crisis games have some of that going for them too. I blame Vandal Hearts for sucking the life out of Nobuya Nakasato. He at least went after and did Shattered Soldier, Neo, and the Rebirth games to release some steam. However Vanquish is definitely in my wish list. I trust the Viewtiful Joe brand too much to dismiss any of their titles. I do agree the Contra reference applies considering how they are now the only ones that do the titles we expected from Konami back in the 4th gen.

Hey guys, do you remember how it was said TMNT would not have local coop because they wanted to keep a stable framerate at 60fps? Well, the game just came out, and it's locked at 30fps. So, yeah. It was just a very bullshit excuse. Also, why the hell would Platinum Games develop a spetacle fighter that runs at 30fps? Wasn't every single one of their previous games running at 60? If it has something to do with the (to me) useless online coop, then that's pretty sad.

It seems like Activision stretches their developers very badly CervantesIf one of the most talented studios in the industry can't make a game that is generally likable for 3 times with them, then something is definitely wrong with Activision. People are split on korra, transformers and TMNT. Compared to their sega contract days where every single game they made is a classic. At this point i'm pretty sure Platinum is only working with activision to fund their good games.

fsfsxii - I hope this doesn't damage their reputation too much, considering how Star Fox wasn't very well received either (although most of the criticism I've heard from that one was based around the love-or-hate control method). For now, I would prefer if they just went back to develop their own IPs, as the licensed stuff is quickly becoming trouble - worked for Metal Gear and most people were ok with Transformers, but definitely not for Korra, Star Fox and now this. spidershinobi - Yeah, mate, so the reason for the lack of coop was definitely shadier than it seemed - I mean, it was already stupid, but that being a lie is even worse. Anarchy Reigns at least had a good single-player mode to make up for the lack of local coop, but for the most reviews I'm seeing of TMNT on Steam, it's not fairing very well. EDIT: About the 30/60 fps thing, I remembered that Anarchy Reigns ran at 30 - but then, that game had some really elaborate graphics for the consoles it was running on; it was not ideal, but acceptable. Now, I can't find a reason for TMNT. Maybe they have trouble with online modes and solve it by limiting the framerate anyway? I say this as both games are focused on online battles...

Hopefully people will start to tone it down with the "Platinum make a *X* game". I was starting to get real sick of seeing it.
I don't even know why Platinum has such a following to begin with, or where these fans are coming from, since their games don't sell very well at all. It's the reason they have to release 3 different mediocre shovelware titles in the span of 2 years. Hell, even some of their main games like MGR and Anarchy Reigns aren't very good.
I still think Platinum is a good game dev company, but I honestly don't understand where this following comes from. I mean, I've been hearing people saying "Platinum should make an *X* game" for years now.

I mean, I've been hearing people saying "Platinum should make an *X* game" for years now. Well bayonetta 1 sold over a million copies, Vanquish i dunno how much but it does have a cult following. Their bloody white and black colored game on wii sold well iirc, bayonetta 2 is great. My only complaint with the dev is that (aside from Vanquish, that game was perfect) they try to push stupid gimmicks into their games. Bayonetta 1 had that stupid angel attack minigame between each chapter, bayonetta 2 had the awful flying boss battles that slow the game down to a near halt in terms of speed, MGR's core game mechanic was the slow mo cutting thingy which got old really quick. Vanquish has none of that nonsense, because it was directed by shinji mikami.

winnersdontusedrugs - Their following is well earned, I think. I mean, for a new and small-ish developer, it's quite impressive that one of the best beat'em ups / spetacle fighters of the last generation (Bayonetta) and 3rd person shooters (Vanquish) were done by them; they also made quite an impression on Wii owners with Mad World. Basically, they were one of the few surviving japanese developers that were doing, you know, japanese stuff, as Konami and Capcom were too keen in giving their licenses to subpar western developers. If you wanted a japanese action game in the vein of the 16-32-bit Treasure/Konami/Capcom games, you could trust Platinum. And frankly, I would add MGR to that list, as it still is one of my favourite action games in the previous generation. But hey, I gree with you on how annoying the "Platinum should make X" meme is. I can even think of a few IPs that could fare well in their hands, but people really like to exaggerate on that and say that they could do anything. They can't. About their current situation, what I saw of Nier Automata looks very, very good; the Scalebound demo they showed last year was promising, although the game looked to be not very far in development, so I hope these two games turn out well. I've heard only good things about Transformers, so I intend to get it in the future, but I certainly have absolutely no interest in TMNT. fsfsxii - Yep, I can't remember a single gimmick in Vanquish. That game is awesome. To be fair to MGR, the gimmick was already there before they even got their chance to develop the game, as it already was the selling point when KojiPro was developing it.

So they are 1/3 on the Activision games going by the feedback TMNT is getting. I will definitely look out for a cheap copy of Transformers instead and pass on it.
@winndersdontusedrugs Metal Gear Rising was fun, I'd have to disagree on it not being good.

While that is true, the kojipro version seemed to be more developed and in real time as opposed to the slow-mo one we have, also it seemed to allow the player to cut anything. I'd like to see Kojima's vision come to life now that he's a free lance.

Metal Gear Rising was very good. However this new TMNT is doing really bad critically. I predicted this. Platinum is getting their hands over too many things at the same time.
They just released Star Fox Zero. No one with their right mind will take on that many projects at once. They are working in NieR that for what I've seen of the game is possibly aiming to rival Final Fantasy XV.
It is just too much. I'm sure TMNT is not a bad game, but the lack of local co-op is what is killing it for everybody. The excuse? No time, of course.

They seriously need to get back with either Sega or Capcom, those 2 are the only ones that appreciate their talent.

I agree, but it looks like they are doing a good job with Square Enix just like they did with Konami, the demos of NeiR Automata are coming really impressive.
They do good with Nintendo too, it is just that YouTubers hate Nintendo because of the licensing claims, so they had spread a lot of hate towards Nintendo because of that, and listeners of those channels are sucking it all up because they can't think for themselves.

By the way, Steam is doing a sale of the Metal Gear franchise and MGR is really cheap, if anyone still don't have the game and is curious about it. fsfsxii - Nah, the slowmo was in the KojiPro version, too (you can clearly see by the end of the trailer). For reference: Also, keep in mind Kojima said the game was cancelled because it just wasn't fun to play - so, while I'm also really curious about how it would've look like, maybe the game would just not be as good as the one Platinum made. But yeah, I would like to see Kojima trying his hand at a swordfighting game.
