This bugs me because I don't have internet service at my apartment so I frequently need travel to a wifi spot to get access to the internet. If my mom wasn't a complete alcoholic bitch I could browse at her house (she has full wireless support), but since she readily attacks me when I try to stay for more than an hour or two I'm often forced to look elsewhere for internet. Usually I go to my local libraries, but since they tend to close early and aren't open very long on the weekend, I'm sometimes regrettably forced to go to fast food joints like McDonalds for wifi.
I've heard that internet or cyber cafes are common in other countries, especially China. I don't understand why my town of over 12,000 people doesn't have a single cyber cafe. Can anyone give me a good reason why this is?

Speculation: Mobile gaming. The very casual gamers have their phones now, which connect to the internet so they can do multiple things on the run.
Also, you got the old guard who used to like to play LAN parties getting jobs and having families, so they don't have the time any more.
Maybe it's just not profitable now.

I think public libraries offer this service for free.

Yeah, pretty much this: a lot of people only use the internet through their phones, so no need for cyber cafes. Also, most modern PC games don't even offer LAN options, besides online being easily available to almost all PC players at their home, so LAN parties are definitely going the way of the dodo.

I think public libraries offer this service for free. They do, but the hours aren't very reasonable. I would prefer a wifi spot with service 24 hours a day (do these exist?).

We have public wifi downtown. We already had it in lots of indoor places like libraries, town hall, hopital etc., and in association with a local electric company they made a public outdoors one for main street.
EU also gives out grants cities in EU member countries money to expand public wifi.

It might be outdoors, but still. Makes me wonder if any US cities have similar 24/7 public wifi areas.

South Korea seems like a nice place to live; free wifi, close to the coast, reasonable climate, better public transportation. If I won the lottery I would like to vacation there.

Seems like a huge gamble for someone like me who knows very little about the country to abruptly move there. I've never been a risk taker. Hell, I couldn't even afford the plane ticket over there unless I sell all my possessions or something (from what I remember, aren't cross-country tickets here something like $1,500 for one-way fare? I couldn't even imagine how expensive a plane ride to the opposite side of the globe would be).

Once you want something you realize there is nothing stopping you from getting it, if your goal is within reason, it is definitely doable, and usually the best way to accomplish anything is with alliances, and by modeling someone that has done it before, with those two secrets, success is pretty much inevitable, no matter how many times you fail before achieving it.

LAN support is really being phased out of PC games?? WHY? I am baffled that publishers would do this to their games. First split-screen on consoles gets axed, and now LAN support on PC? This makes me so sad.
