It's the best possible way to pass the torch and also the best way to reboot a classic series.
Here's my review from my latest rewatch:
"This movie has no right being as good as it is. Whenever an original movie is as good as Rocky is, the reboots are usually god awful, but here comes Creed with a knockout start to a new saga. It has a lot to live up to, especially since Rocky Balboa (Rocky VI), pretty much was the perfect ending. Creed pays as much homage to the Rocky saga as it makes an image for itself. Michael B. Jordan was the perfect a actor for playing Creed, and him being Apollo's son is again something to live up as Apollo is one of the best characters ever written. But there is a reason Carl Weathers gave his blessing to Jordan. Stallone gives his third perfect performance as Rocky, still evolving his character. A shame he did not win that Academy award, it was definitely deserved. As for the fighting, holy shit, the best fighting of the series. That one take fight scene is no trickery bullshit. And the final match too, were amazing. The antagonist is alright, I would say he is on the level as Mason Dixon as a good villain. What I do not particularly like about this movie is the "Modern" soundtrack. I get why they used it, but it is so damn tacky. Both the rap music and the experimental shit suck. However, Creed does use the original score where it matters, and I highly respect that. After some consideration, this is the 3rd best movie in the series, right after Rocky and Rocky Balboa. I can definitely see the potential of there being even better movies in this franchise." 5/5 no doubt.

Creed (aka Rocky 6) starring Stallone rules. It has Stallone in it, which rules. 5/5 top quality Stallone movie.

Man, I wish Stallone and Arnold would had made a movie Rambo / Commando style where they shoot down Ridley Scott's Aliens.
At least we have Predator, which it is kind of close, but it would have been nice to have a movie with both actors together shooting stuff with bandanas.

That is what the Contra series was going for anyway.

cobretti, which Rocky movie are you not counting in the series? Is it Rocky V? It must be Rocky V. Stallone can only do so much for that one.

Sorry, guys. Even I, a vision of perfection, or Rocky V, can't actually be perfect all the time. Creed would in fact be properly considered Rocky VII. My mistake. Rocky V, although inferior to all other Rocky movies, still rules because Stallone is in it.

...At least at my house.
The damn abomination is still in its cellophane wrap, and we don't speak of that colossal let down.

The damn abomination is still in its cellophane wrap, and we don't speak of that colossal let down. It's not the worst movie ever made, but they made so many awful decisions and it must have beem such a letdown to fans at the time. It was going to be Rocky's last movie, and it ended so piss poorly. Fortunately we got Rocky Balboa down the road, which fixed the franchise.
