What he talks about the loudness, and the lack of timbre in today's music is something I can definitely relate by simply listening to all these classic songs that had a richer sound, and great acoustics.

I'm not saying Dr. Luke, and Max Martin stuff isn't catchy sometimes, but the superiority of older stuff is very apparent not only in terms of the composition, but on the methods of recording as well.

I'm also glad the music I consider the best is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Just to think of the competition, to be #1 was insanely hard in those days.

I feel a lot of times the split can happen in between the decade. I mean, there are multiple styles at the same time, but some are more popular than others.

I know early 2010s was huge for EDM, and late 2000s had a lot of that Emo/Hipster stuff, along with being very heavy in terms of Hip-Hop.

Early 90s did have a lot of techno, but it also had a lot of Grunge like Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, and the Stone Temple Pilots.

From 1997 to 2002 there are also very defined elements in music. Albums like 'N Sync, and Backstreet Boys, to solo projects like Justified, and Now Or Never, defined the pop music of the time, but so it did a lot of Nu Metal like Korn, and Limb Bizkit.

Late 50s was all about Rock & Roll with Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Bill Haley, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ritchie Valens, and The Platters.

Early 60s, and mid 60s was all about "The" Beat movement. Bands that later changed to a more psychodelic sound were still doing the Beat: The Dave Clark Five, Herman's Hermits, Gerry And The Pacemakers, The Beatles, The Zombies, The Hollies, The Who, The Kinks, etc..

In the late 60s, and early 70s, everything changed, with drugs, the hippies, and everything psychodelic.

I remember hearing on a documentary about Kurt Cobain claiming how those changes those bands went through inspired him in his career.

Let's also not forget that after the Soft Rock of the early 70s, during the late 70s it was all about Disco with monster bands like the Bee Gees, and ABBA.

There was stuff like Chic, KC & The Sunshine Band, Kool & The Gang, Barbara Streisand, Donna Summer, Village People, Blondie, Tavares, The Temptations, Electric Light Orchestra, Diana Ross, Gloria Gaynord, etc..

Even established bands like The Rolling Stones went Disco:



Then in the 80s we did have a lot of synth pop, and a lot of music utilizing keyboards, but we also had the heavy metal scene with Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, Accept, and Mercyful Fate.

There was also the Thrash Metal Bay Area movement with Exodus, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Testament, and it even reached out with bands like Anthrax, and Overkill.

Then in the late 80s we had the Glam, all those Arena Rock bands went big: Mötley Crue, Bon Jovi, Scorpions, Europe, Skid Row, Twisted Sister, Whitesnake, Def Lepard, Warrant, Van Halen, Poison, Aerosmith, and Guns 'N Roses. Some even went all throughout the 90s as well.
