Does anyone know the whole story about the PS4 and-a-half? I tried asking around Neogaf and I got banned for not liking Sony enough. All I know is that it's a separate system and it can output your favorite movies and games as a slideshow, with the cost of the slideshow being in 4K resolution (eww).
Does anyone know about the price range of these things?

AFAIK it's an upgraded version of PS4 that supports the PlayStation VR and 4K playback of movie and games whereas the regular PS4 could only do 4K in picture slideshows and does not support the PSVR. Someone'll probably correct me if I'm wrong though so no worries, it's all good, I personally don't care about this thing at all after how poorly Sony treated PSP and PS3 owners like myself, they've lost me as a costumer and some half-assed PS4 upgrade isn't going to change that one bit.

What Armored Core Raven said is pretty much all there is to it at the moment. arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/03/report-sony-working-on-upgraded-4k-capable-ps4/Now I'm going to poop on everyone, because people deserve it. As of 2016, most games being released for Ps4 were developed for Ps3; multiple games coming out in the West as Ps4 exclusives or Ps4/Vita games are being played by japanese Ps3 owners, including major releases such as Dragon Quest Heroes (both of them), Tales of Berseria, and Star Ocean 5. So everyone: you saw the Ps4 and Xbone, you saw the specs were low, almost no technological jump, you saw all the games were just HDier versions of what we had, why did you rush to purchase the non-next gen systems? Was it pressure to move on from something western developers said they were moving on and ultimately left you in the lurch because only japanese developers are doing their job? Or are you just trying to spend money you forgot you had?

Like Player1 said that thing is annoying because if it is an add on like the 32X or the Sega CD it will make my PS4 bulkier, and if it is a whole new console, it means my current PS4 lifespan is pretty much done. Both things would annoy me.
Not that I don't like my new console, but like I said before it doesn't take away the fact that if they go through with it, they are doing a very dickish move on consumers.

So nothing of value was lost then. Also, I'm kind of liking the idea of this thing being a 32x add-on, in a "money is worth nothing" sort of way. It probably isin't gonna happen, but I'm excited to see just how ridiculous a physical add-on for the PS4 would be.

Before all the fuss, this is more likely just the PS4 1.5. Just like the PS1 2nd version, PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim; this is just the refinement of the product. At least until I see some confirmation on specs, this is the most like true.

Now, did you know you just sounded like Matt McMuscles when you mentioned the add-ons? Heh! I'd be down with that too. stratogustavWell, it is what I said before. People saw an inadequate product and rushed to buy it. It's not a dick move under this specific situation. scipioafricanus That's... Not the story at all. In fact, this story only surfaced after Xbone was announced to have possible sequels too. Do you think Sony would be ok with going back to having the worst system overall?

It is official that it is happening, they even have the price and the release date. It makes me feel like I wasted $400 even though I'm enjoying the product. I would had love they said this before so I would had wait. I would not had mind waiting another 9 months. I have a 4K TV so the new console appeals to me, but I despise spending the money again.

Maybe what's coming up is the *real* Gen 8, while what we're in now is actually Gen 7.5...

Wii U was definitely a .5. Even the name says so.

Dan E. KoolEasy, it is around $400, releases in October, and plays everything in 4K, meaning games too. Also it would share the same library with the old PS4. It just makes me think of the Neo Geo with its 17 years of support, and 14 years of first party game development. It shits on this gen of consoles.

I miss the days when you bought a game system and you bought a game and the shit you put into the game system just worked until a brand new system came out and replaced it 5-6 years later. I'm tired of there being 80 billion different versions of the same damned thing. If I wanted to update my systems every 3 months because everything was out of date, I'd time travel back to the mid 90s and build a PC. <_<

Keeping up with a PC is expensive though. The latest video cards are always at least $800 when they come out and that's just the GPU without counting RAM and CPU. Not to mention the monstrosities of boxes you need to have to pack all that, dealing with the installing of each different game you get, managing your folders and space, adjusting the running settings of games individually, mapping your controllers, online connectivity settings, etc.. It's a pain in the ass.
