Some backstory to when I watched this: A very good movie friend of mine hyped this movie up so much for me. It is one of his favorite movies and it stars his favorite actor, Ryan Gosling. He said this movie was incredible. So I saved this movie for a special occasion. It left me unsatisfied. It is basically a modern version of Taxi Driver, but a worse one. It is definitely a good movie, but keep in mind that it is not mind-blowing. Watch it if you find it because it is worth a watch. Here's my review from when I watched it:
"A slow-burn of a movie, with some payoff. Driver was a very anticipated movie for me, that really did not hit the mark totally for me. It is essentially a re-imagining of Taxi Driver, which is a better movie in my opinion. Ryan Gosling is pretty good, and the cast is awesome, but none of them have an outstanding performance here. The noir-esque look and feel is cool, but nothing incredibly awesome looking cinematography. Action is great though, but one has to be patient for it. All in all, it was good, but I am not very impressed." 3.5/5

It's also a beautiful movie with great photography. I'm reminded of this video by Every Frame a Painting:
I love how it's kind of a realistic super-hero movie, a slow-burn one at that. The driver is this guy who wants to be cool and keep things to himself, but then he keeps getting pushed into an awful situation that demands his reaction. The entire movie is the building of that reaction, and when he decides to act, man, it's glorious. The famous elevator scene is the breaking point, when it gets clear that all the previous calmness was just hiding a very intense rage. Ryan Gosling was a really good choice for this role, as he can depict this tense appearance of calmness.
Another important thing is how the movie set a very stylized modernization of the 80s aesthetic - while the 80s neon always had some presence in modern media, Drive was one of the most famous examples of its good use in the last decade.

A very important thing: this movie is main inspiration for Hotline Miami, which is an awesome game and almost an adaptation of it (the game is even dedicated to Drive's director in the credits).

I just saw this movie today on Amazon Prime, it was one of the many movies from him I didn't know about. It was a good movie, I don't think she was cute enough for him going through all that trouble. He could have had her on the first night too, but he was a legit hero, and he basically brought all that on himself because he wanted to make everything right. One thing you can tell is that if it wasn't for him she would definitely have been killed, and her son. I'm glad he went somewhere else because he can definitely do better. Although he probably went to do another heroic thing somewhere else.
