Never thought I would see so many 6th gen votes.
I'm still stuck on whether I should go with 5th or 6th gen. They seem like the best of both worlds in regards to 2d and 3d. They also were the first generations to finally get a genre right that wasn't a platformer or a 2d shooter.
Do Computer games of each gen get factored in? That may swing me to one side or the other.

I wouldn't count PC since they were always ahead of their time, just like they are today with their native 4K resolutions running at 120 frames per second.
