Usually I leave this sort of discussions in the hands of Spirit Bomb as he is the undisputed King (or should I say Maestro)) of discussing famous people, however today I felt like making one of these threads myself. Taikia Waiti for those who don't know is a New Zealand film director famous for making such comedy movies as The Hunt for the Wilder People, What We Do in the Shadows and Thor 3: Ragnarok. Many people love this guy and thinks he can do no wrong, and because of this he's been given numerous other projects. The style of a Waititi movie is a lot of jokes and improvisation. Actors in his movies are rarely given a complete script, and all they do is react to the setting around them and make jokes. Everyone is the comedic relief in his movies, there are no straight men. What bothers me the most is that he throws so many jokes on the screen that the pacing and mood becomes all weird. Most of the jokes fall completely flat for me, but when I watch these movies with other people, they laugh their asses off throughout the whole movie. Nobody shares my opinion on this guy, and I'm tired of people sending me news about this guy's next project. I don't hate the guy. His movies aren't awful or anything, but god damn are they overrated.
So have any of you guys seen this guy's movies, and if so, what do you think of him as a filmmaker? No polls in this discussion as polls have become cliche. Not all opinions can be expressed through a poll. I'm going polless.

I'm sure not everyone has heard of him before, but if you're into watching newer movies, this guy shouldn't be far of your radar.

Never heard of him. But he's from New Zealand, so he's probably a pretty decent guy.

The thing about my discussions Maestro, is that I never go personal on the people I discuss. I have nothing bad to say about Waititi as human being, quite on the contrary. He looks like he's a great guy, and lots of people love to work with to further testify that. I simply wanted to discuss the quality of his work.

Let's say he turns out to be a sex offender, a wife beater, a racist, a zealot, a homophobe, or a climate change denier. Would you still support him knowing that?

Roman Polanski and Kevin Spacey have great movies even though they themselves aren't great people. As for Waititi, if you read what I wrote about his work you would knis that I don't like his movies that much.

So they've announced a new Star Wars movie, and this guy's directing. Right now the fanboys are heckling skeptical people calling them toxic for not thinking this man is God himself. I feared this day would come. Star Wars doesn't have a good track record nowadays, so I shouldn't care that much who takes a shot at it, but I'm still disappointed it's going to be this guy as he has the same comedy in every movie he makes and I've never enjoyed it.

I need to see it first to see if it is any good. My hope is that it is on IMAX 16:9 and 3D, but that's probably too much asking considering these things are made for streaming on Disney Plus.

It'd be crazy is Disney decided not to have a theatrical release for the really big releases such as the new MCU and Star Wars entries. There's nothing to be worried about dude.

Yeah, I'm happy Nolan is still throwing the 1.78:1 ratio on his movies. It would suck if Disney stops doing that for IMAX 3D.

Yeah, I'm happy Nolan is still throwing the 1.78:1 ratio on his movies. It would suck if Disney stops doing that for IMAX 3D. More and more movies are moving away from 3D though. It's only comic book blockbusters that have done it in recent years, and even those are starting to pull out. I too like the format and I've got over a hundred 3D Blu-Rays. I bought the last top consumer tier Samsung TV that supported the format as even newer TVs no longer support it. I love the gimmick but I can understand why everyone else hate it.
