I found this episode to be just okay. I mean, most of the games were for the most part good or mediocre. So I kinda like him just talking about the games and the "general review" of them. I glaze over the poop jokes and swearing. Kinda like when Mark or Derek would review a bad game; those episodes were always better than a good game. Yes, I do like listening to James talk about games and I wouldn't mind him just talking about good ones. It's not only bad games that can produce good episodes.

Literally EVERYTHING Cinemassacre-produced has gone down hill. I mean, who are the two shmucks in this video?? Where the fuck is Mike Matinee?? I don't care about these two shmuck-nobodies! I want MOTHERFUCKING MIKE MATINEE, dammit! First You Know What's Bullshit? fades out of existence, then Monster Madness ends, and then Mike Matinee disappears. Also, no more James and Mike Mondays? That's over half my reason to care about Cinemassacre right there, all flushed right down the crapper at once. Fuck this channel. Get back on your meds, skippy.
And for someone you demand to see, you could spell his name right.
Welp that aged well. Have fun staying subscribed to this sellout who backstabbed his college best friend. Mike was a flawed guy for sure, but I don't think a single OG AVGN fanboy wanted to see him fired/removed from the series.

Mike simpoy wanted to leave and focus on his streaming. There's nothing wrong with that.

Spirit Bomb - On one hand, Mike did a lot of work in the backstage, as he was always much more of a "video game nerd" than James, and I suspect a lot of the good jokes in classic episodes may have been written by him. On the other hand, he was a bit of a loose cannon, did some very questionable stuff (even posting dick pics on the official Cinemassacre twitter), was pointed out as the reason for Bootsy quiting Cinemassacre and had some very annoying on-screen appearances. I think the channel will suffer in his absence, but he was always a controversial figure. Anyway, it seems there was no fight behind the scenes or anything, so he may have just decided to focus on his streaming (and working with his girlfriend, who also streams as Erin Plays). Well, seeing as Cinemassacre recently tried to go for other directions, like movie reviews and music videos, my guess is that Mike just wasn't very interested, as he clearly has a passion for games. As for the channel itself: through the later months of 2020 it got a bit better due to the Screenwave guys (Ryan, Justin, Kieran, Tony) not appearing much. The truth is that they have no chemistry on-screen, especially with James, and are very boring to watch, to the point that I never even tried to finish any Rental Reviews episode. In 2019 and early 2020, those guys were trying to cram themselves in every Cinemassacre video (even in that already bad "Mighty Wings" music video they make some very forced appearances, without even being musicians), but as a side effect of Covid James ended up doing more videos alone, which was for the better. In the new videos posted this year there's also no sign of those guys and Rental Reviews was discontinued, so maybe they took notice. Hell, the low point of 2020 for the channel was probably that cringeworthy video about a Gengar/Pokémon collection that one of those guys have, the video was really out of place and very unlike what the channel produces.

That Gengar collection video was the worst offender. If people thought James and the Screenwave guys had bad chemistry, just watch that Gengar viseo and witness how things turn out when you have Mike and Justin on screen.

If that's true, then how come James or one of the Screenwave chumps has removed & replaced all of Mike's hand drawn AVGN title cards? These were often funnier than the actual content in the videos. Anyway, my point is that there was clearly some animosity towards Mike going on behind the scenes at Cinemassacre. Why else would they have removed Mike's drawings (all of them) from the series? Cervantes I clearly said that Mike was a flawed content creator. I'm not defending his sexting controversy, reddit moderation, or whatever else. I just think his contributions to AVGN were all good and James/Screenwave removing his involvement from the ailing series could be the final nail in the coffin for many.

There's a reason why the title cards were removed if you'd have dug a little deeper, but ai don't mind explaining. Screenwave's purpose is to help out the channel and optimize it in terms of satisfying the YT algorithm. To do this they had to get rid of the old thumbnails. Now personallyz I think this is a travesty and the new thumbnails look god awful, however, there's no shade thrown at Mike here even though Mike and the Screenwave crew don't have good chemistry on screen.

Sure, I got that and was just giving my take on the subject. I do agree with you that, as flawed as Mike is, AVGN as a show will probably suffer from his absence, due to Mike being much more passionate about games than James. I have this impression that he was the one giving ideas for the episodes, and it was stated before that some of the games or consoles used were his. I still have hope for the series as I enjoyed some of its more recent episodes, so let's see how it goes this year. EDIT: Changing the original thumbnails was shitty, but it happened a long time ago and, as Balder said, was just the Screenwave guys doing an ill-advised move to manipulate Youtube's algorithm. I don't even think it makes any difference to the algorithm and just makes the entire channel look generic, so that was a really dumb choice.

I remember when I was a kid, the release of an AVGN episode was an event. Everything stopped when a new one came out. They were huge, and rarely did they disappoint.
But it was around late 2010, maybe early 2011 that things started to change. For whatever reason the show wasn't the same anymore. It wasn't as funny, the use of language (not swearing, the actual iconic and bizarre phrasing of ordinary words) wasn't as memorable. The show was going downhill. And fast.
In retrospect, there were still a few diamonds in the rough, especially the Atari Sports episode, but it really hurt to see this thing that I love turn into something that was of poor quality.
The modern episodes? Unwatchable. The primary reason, I would argue, is because now the Angry Video Game Nerd is a show ... about video games. They used to be short films and sketch comedy skits disguised as game reviews, but the game reviews were never the most important part, which makes sense given the fact that the show is now primarily written and produced by actual gamers instead of Rolfe, who had a Nintendo as a kid and pursued other hobbies as he grew up.
In the classic era, each episode was a mini movie. Now? Each episode is a Youtube video. He sits on the couch and nothing happens.

I still watch the new ones, however, especially lately it's been feeling like a chore. I'd rather get one good episode a year a That I can rewatch endlessly, than get 12 ones where I never want to rewatch any of them.

I haven't been watching the new episodes lately, last one I watched was Countdown Vampires(and I think I skipped some before that but only watched CV hoping it would be a good Halloween episode).

I've changed my mind about Cinemassacre. It's been run into the ground by now. James is unbelievable boring to watch in every single video he makes nowadays. There is little to no passion left. AVGN is not even written by him anymore. He just sits on the couch and reads his line of cheat cards. It's honestly depressing at this point.
