Web series discussion of the week: AVGN

I've heard of this plagiarism story. What isn't addressed by James is that there was a second plagiarized review ("Bad Taste") that they quickly took down, so it was not an isolated incident.

Then he releases his apology as an unlisted video on his secondary channel... That's some shady stuff.

I think that says it all. It's not "I" anymore with James, it's "we". He sold out to these Screenwave shmucks and now they're (unintentionally) driving him into the ground. When it was just James and Mike, even when the videos weren't funny you could still feel the passion of two friends having fun while producing creator driven content. Now he's just a sell-out, a wannabe, and a phony. I remember him saying in a different PSA video how he loves Screenwave's help because it allows him to spend more time with his two kids (this one) :





In the video he actually defended the quality of all his modern AVGN reviews and criticized his fans for not wanting to throw money & views at him.

James, if you couldn't juggle having kids and doing cinemassacre then WHY THE FUCK DID YOU DECIDE TO HAVE KIDS??? Now he's officially just another artist who gave up on his dream & his fans in favor of siphoning his fan's money to his children. Lame. I mean, family is important, but why create kids if you can't manage your career at the same time? Typical american idiot right there.

This makes me wonder if any of Mark's scripts for his reviews were ever plagiarized, and how much of it was actually his own opinion. Most of it seems authentic in retrospect, but I can't really be sure. Unlike James, Mark was part of a production company right from the start. Considering the fact that he had kids, a wife, (like James) and even a dog to tend to, it seems possible thinking about it now that at least some of Mark's scripts were written by other staff members or maybe even outsourced.

This story is making me rethink my opinion of certain content creators on Youtube. It also reminds me why having children doesn't benefit anyone or anything; it's selfish, unsustainable for the planet, and can create problems for the people around you (i.e. his fans). Don't blame the kids, blame the parents.

I didn't know about the Bad Taste review. The apology being unlisted and on another channel though already made it seem very insincere to me. He's not sorry it happened, he's sorry they got caught.

I didn't really mean to say the bolded part as fact but it's definitely the impression it gave me.

I just don't even get the point of forcing 31 days of Monster Madness again if it's going to be a shit show. Pretty sure they would make more money with a handful of vids on YT rather than 31 on their website so I'm not sure what the motive is here, definitely not James' passion for the project. I guess they did relaunch their website recently and are probably hoping to push it, good luck I guess. 

edit: I forgot about the vid in the post. I've never heard of Fine Bros, so no comment on them.

Just because the Nazis were way worse than the jews doesn't mean that religions like judaism deserve to escape criticism in the modern day when their members like Barry Minkow and the Fine Brothers pull nefarious shit like that.
