The household appliance I want to talk about with the pub this week is the gun safe As America has the highest rate of gun ownership per capita, it only makes sense that many americans would want to secure their firearms in a sturdy, fool-proof container and reduce their chance of being stolen. What do you guys think of gun safes? Does anyone here own a gun safe? Discuss! |

I don't have anything against gun safes, or safes in general, per-se. The problem is that, with the sheer amount of gun owners in America, it would be infeasible for every one of those homes to have their own gun safe(s). With the sheer amount of metal ore that would be required to produce that many gun safes, mining activity would skyrocket and, just like guns themselves, it would be a monumental waste of resources all-around just to support what is essentially a hobby for americans.
As much trouble as guns currently cause in american society, producing more gun safes would wreck the environment and would likely make little impact on the level of gun violence overall. Stolen guns seemingly only account for a small percentage of those used in mass shootings.
It would be better to just phase out firearm production than to have all privately owned firearms secured in gun safes. It's just another example of a pointless first-world hobby requiring a fuck-ton of resources. So I vote "no".

I don't like bulky stuff, so I wouldn't have this. If I had cool guns I would just put them as decorations behind glass displays where they won't get dusty.

These are mandatory if you own a gun in Norway. These prevent guns from falling into the wrong hands such as kids. Imagine if America required all gun owners to own gun safes. Every other citizen would require an additional 500 pounds (give or take) of metal ore + other materials. It would be catastrophic on the environment. Gun ownership is a disaster on so many levels, I'm telling ya. |
