The Xbox 360 is being retired. It was a good run. The 360 far outlasted it's predecessor with both the number of years being manufactured and the longevity of Xbox Live. It beat Sony and Nintendo to the "next generation" first, and was the first console designed for the HDTV generation (though, surprisingly, missing HDMI on the initial models). It brought Indie developers back into the limelight in an era where the large conglomerate game companies were unwilling to take a chance on any new ideas. Then again... it was also the first console to introduce micro-transactions, end-user-required manually updates, constant system revisions, red rings of death and I'm not 100% sure that it ever reached the one billion people that Microsoft was hoping for... but it will be missed. news.xbox.com/2016/04/20/xbox-360-celebrating-10-years/

Nobody is going to forget the red ring of death anytime soon. Some people on the internet have told me that they went through what 5 or 6 360's because the pieces of crap all red ringed. One guy even told me he went through 9 of them. Yet im still on my first ps3 and its the fat model the so called unreliable one.
Oh but lets not forget the ps3 and 360 era started the whole unfinished games business, patches, and dlc scams.

I have three Xbox 360s (Jasper Model, Model S and Model E). Haven't opened the Model E, but the Jasper, which is a later revision of the original, still runs great. Never had an issue with either. I also have three PS3s (80GB Non-BC Original and 2 Super Slims). Haven't opened the second Super Slim, but the original Super Slim likes to freeze up on me a LOT. I mean, a LOT. Oddly, the original 80GB model works near flawlessly. The legend that is $5 Horse Armor will live on through our memories until the end of eternity. www.gamespot.com/articles/oblivion-horse-armor-now-available/1100-6147013/

My 40gb ps3 has overheated. Its picky about turning on. You have to keep pressing the power button multiple times sometimes to get it to turn on. Sometimes it stays on the first time you press it and sometimes it doesn't and requires multiple presses on the power button. When I try to turn it on with the controller it doesn't work as great anymore that way. I'm not even sure it works at all with that method anymore. It used to back before it overheated.

Interesting. I have the 4GB model and I've never had any problems with it.

It's easy to open the original 360 and mod it to not have RROD. Just change the fan out with one of those Whisper Talismoon fans.

SPOOIE, YOU'RE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HUUUUUZZZAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
We've all missed you! And we're glad you're back. But I've gotta say, I won't really miss the 360 all that much. I thought it was complete shit compared to the amazing original Xbox, being nowhere near the aforementioned console in terms of innovation, build quality and software library. Then again, I hate the 7th gen with a passion, so perhaps my view on this matter is a bit biased....

Countless (almost countless) video game series started on 7th gen.

I dunno... I own 2 original Xbox systems and one I got from my cousin who barely used his. It was pretty much dormant for 10 years or so. Unfortunately, it was a Thomson drive... so it pretty much only worked 5% of the time. Yet, my Jasper model Xbox 360 has never failed me, nor has my Model S 360 failed me. I love the 360 controller. Most comfortable controller I've used yet!

I have not tried the Xbox One controller. Anything specifically changed with it?

I have not tried the Xbox One controller. Anything specifically changed with it? The battery pack doesn't get in the way of your fingers, thumbsticks are made of better materials and are smoother, rumble features in the triggers, longer battery time and the D-pad is actually good on this controller.

I hate that generation because of the over-reliance on internet to play games properly, the beginning of the decline/disappearance of local multiplayer, and Nintendo going full retard and giving the middle finger to longtime Nintendo fans with casualized shit like Brawl, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario Galaxy, Skyward Sword and so on. The Wii was the first 7th gen system I owned, and boy did it give me a negative impression of that gen.

But I wouldn't say that most 7th gen games are overly dependent on internet. It's when developers first started using LAN capabilites along with split screen.

I feel kind of lucky. The 360 was never those most played of my consoles (I have the Elite model with the old-style black shell), but I definitely have some good memories, and drag it one once in a while. I think I've had it...around seven and a half years if I'm counting correctly, and no red rings yet.
