Yeah, PS3 when compared to the PS4 controller feels like a toy. PS4 is damn near perfection for me. Hard to top that one. A big issue with that controller is that the thumbsticks seem to wear down to easily. I don't play that often with them, but both of my brother's controllers have the outer layer rubbed off. Also the light on the back is beyond stupid. Trying to watch movies with that thing in the room is an annoyance. Always have to hide it under a shirt or something. Besides that it's pretty damn good. Haven't had any issues with the thumbsticks, but the light is stupid.

Always have to hide it under a shirt or something. Now I'm picturing your avatar sitting on a couch with a glowing shirt on a coffee table. Now look at what you've started, Balder.

The console with the V shape doesn't look too bad, it's decent from this angle, but that control though. It is just too puffy, it makes it look cheap, and tacky.

Is that the actual console? Controller looks great, console not so much. The opposite. The controller is a massive disappointment. Just look at the difference. The previous one was much more elegant. The new one has some really cheap curves, like something from Logitech, not from Sony: The console looks alright. It still could be better though.

Anybody excited about the Pro? There seems to be a lot of hate about the announcement.

It seems pretty expensive. I think I'm okay sticking with my PS5 for now.

To be fair it is cheaper than the PS3 when it launched if you consider inflation.
That said, I feel this is aimed to people like me that don't have a PS5 at all, that are still playing their PS4 Pro religiously, and that want a PS5 to play Mortal Kombat 1, Tekken 8, Garou City Of Wolves, etc..
If someone already has a PS5 I don't think this is is worth it at all, unless you can sell the standard PS5 at a good price. So I don't think Sony was aiming at them.
Sony knows there is this significant amount of Sony players that are still playing on PS4, so they are aiming at the ones still waiting to upgrade for a next gen feel.
Otherwise they would have not release this in the first place as it looks bad for people that already has a PS5. Sony was probably running numbers with their app, and other ways they keep statistics.

I had a different perspective on this. I figure that they are aiming at the gamer who wants the best of the best, and since the PS5 technically has lower specs than the X-Box Series X, then this should suffice. I seriously wonder if it is worth the extra $200 without a disc drive, though. There are a lot of angry Sony fans on YouTube over this, and I can see their point. I've looked up the comparison between the Series X and PS5 Pro, and I don't see a huge difference. I know the RAM is faster, and there's some sort of AI upscaling, but from what I've read, the GPU is better on the Series X. Both can support 8K gaming. I don't know, but it feels like PC gaming wins out here.

The thing is that the price they are offering here is the market price of those parts. You may actually spend a lot more building a PC from scratch with those specs.
If you already have a built PC with PS4 specs, you will spend about the same amount just upgrading to reach those exact same numbers.
So the difference here with previous offerings is that they are not selling this at a lost as they usually do, hoping to get the money back with software.
Again, adjusting for inflation this is still cheaper than the launch PS3. Except the launch PS3 was able to natively run the entire PS1 and PS2 libraries without emulation.
Since this is not a next gen jump. It is just a mid gen upgrade. I do not think this is worth it for people that already have PS5s. This is aimed more for people like me that are still playing his PS4 Pro because it was strong enough to play very well most of the games they showed on the presentation.
The problem with jumping this late into a new generation with the upgraded hardware is that when the next one hits you get caught in the cross generation phase. So you are basically skipping the first half of the next gen, and thats when the extra power comes handy.
The only people that already have a base PS5 and could do the upgrade are those that can still sell their base PS5 at a decent price. Otherwise I don't think it's worth the upgrade at all.
Then there are those people that pay $1,500 for a new phone every time a new one is announced, so maybe they wouldn't care doing the upgrade, but the value isn't there unless this is your entry to the current gen.
Xbox doesn't seem to be in a good place regardless of all their massive devs acquisitions, but at least they are hanging in there. If they were doing better, maybe Sony would be more competitive, but they don't really need to at this point, which is why they get away with this, on top of talking advantage of how expensive everything is nowadays.

I agree with everything you've said. I keep seeing the adjustment for inflation argument, and I don't know if I agree with the overall value of that argument. You are absolutely right that the PS3 could run the PS 1 and 2 games. Also, when the PS3 launched Blu-Ray machines were being sold for around the same price, so ultimately you got the most value for your buck back then. For $200 (or $300 if you want the optical drive) more, the value proposition isn't there. I talked about this with my nephews, without poisoning the well. I just asked them what they thought of it, and they unanimously said that it was a waste of money.

Yeah, that's pretty much I what I feel. If you already have a PS5, this is definitely a waste of money.
And like I mentioned in that paragraph you quoted me, even if the PS3 was more expensive, it was a more valuable proposition, so I don't think it is a good excuse.
Like I said, this only makes sense for people that don't have a PS5 and are just arriving in the current gen, that also want to be in a better place when cross gen happens next. It is a very narrow group, and the reason why for most people other than those, this offering doesn't make any sense.
Also keep in mind that if the OG PS5 was going to launch today. It would be that exact same price as the PS5 Pro is launching with, but then again, it would have those specs too.
