I liked it for what it is: a "higher budget" passion project.

Movie was shit. Any episode of AVGN is better this this pile of trash. I remember James saying that he just wanted this movie project to be over and how difficult it was filming it which obviously showed through in the final product.
Watch the Happy Console Gamer Movie instead which was way better.

I wanted to discuss this movie because it meant something special to me, but that was until I watched it for the first time just some weeks ago. Here's my review from then:
"Where to even begin... I have been watching the Angry Video Game Nerd for over a decade. I am now sitting in the very room where I saw my first episode of AVGN or should I say Angry Nintendo Nerd. Lots of things have changed since then, even the room I am sitting in have gone through lots of changes, but one thing has not changed over the years, and that is my love for the this amazing web series. A lot of people have left it behind over the years, but I still watch every new episode the day they come out. They vary in quality these days, but there is a lot to like still. So the question is, why have I not seen the film until now? Well, I was so hyped for the film that I wanted to get it on Blu-Ray to get the ultimate experience, however, that promise never came to fruition and over the years I heard how panned this film was. Still, I wanted to believe there was some hope for it, but god fucking dammit... it is fucking awful. I seriously sat down today and had a sliver of hope and a very open mind, but I cannot lie. What the hell were they thinking? This is so detached from the web series that I cannot believe it was James Rolfe that wrote and directed it. The humor is all wrong and it feels like they were trying to emulate a shitty comedy movie instead of making something that would be worthy of being a feature length movie about the Nerd. Having supporting cast should not be a problem because the show have had plenty of supporting cast over the years, but they undermine and ruin everything here. Cooper is a waste and I utterly despise him and the actor. I have not seen faker acting and screen chemistry in a long time. The show has always been about the games, and I know that there has to be a story taking place here as the main focus, and that is understandable and should work in theory, but everything is so convoluted and does not make any sense whatsoever. I hated it and cringed all the way through. What is all of this nonsense I am watching, and why for the love of fuck can they not show actual games? Why make up all of these parody companies and games? Show actual game companies and games, not fucking Eee Tee, it is called E.T. god dammit. It makes this film feel so incredibly cheap and fake, and I hate that about it. There was literally one funny joke in the entire movie; the Nerd ordering a rock, rolling. Aside from that, the general character was alright, and the robot monster had some fun Godzilla effects moments, but other than those few things, this was not an enjoyable movie. I hate to say it, but this might be one of the most disappointing things I have ever witnessed. I do not know which is sadder; the fact that this movie failed in virtually everything it was set out to succeed at, or the fact that it killed James Rolfe's career as a film director. Why the hell did I ever wait to watch this?" 1/5 sheer utter disappointment.

I never watched it, as every preview looked terrible. I always thought an AVGN movie should be something more like Napoleon Dynamite instead of what they went with. Balder - About the fake games, maybe James Rolfe was being extra careful to avoid lawsuits and any copyright problems. It's one thing in a free youtube video that can be just taken down, but for a movie that could be a major issue. Edit: By Napoleon Dynamite, I mean a small comedy about a couple of guys being huge dorks, no need for villains or a big adventure. Think of the AVGN episodes with Kyle Justin/Guitar Guy (Battletoads, Ikari Warriors) or some of the earlier Board James episodes, when it's just James and a couple of friends being nerds. With a good script, that could work better and have an even smaller budget.

Of course not, but I still think it should feel somewhat like an AVGN episode, at least thr humor should be the same. The supporting cast is atrocious. The GameSack parody is one of my all-time favorite videos on the internet. Hilarious and uncanny.

I've never seen it, but based on everything that I've heard other's say, I'm just going to go out on a limb and give it a 1/5 score.
