only played the first one but the second one is on my list for the GameCube. Great game. has that distinctive Gamecube feel to it.
I read that Miyamoto had huge plans for this game but didn't turn out like he had planned. Turns out you can't push a puzzle game into the mainstream and keep it there for long.

I have never played these games, but I have played the mini game in Nintendo Land. It was fun enough to interest me, so I'm interested in hearing what the forum has to say about it.

Apparently this game was a commercial success, and one of the most praised games from Nintendo in that generation, so much that it inspired many sequels, including one for the 3DS, and for the Wii U. The first two games were ported to the Wii because of that reason.
It isn't surprising considering it was produced, and created by the mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto himself, a magician in the business that can make gold almost everything he touches.
It is hard to go on playing Nintendo consoles without knowing about this game. The whole idea of having an alien crashing, and mind controlling all the natives to help him get all the resources he needs resonates with the story of the Sumerians, and pretty much anyone conquered in the past.
However this game wasn't for me, and I cannot recommended it because no matter how praised it is across the whole industry by anyone that falls under its diabolical spell, this is one of those that I know for sure will give me nightmares, and would haunt me even while playing it.
No matter how smart and addicting it is the Real-Time Strategy gameplay of the game, a type of gameplay that has its roots and influences in legends like Herzog Zwei, I couldn't get myself to even buy the game because I knew it wasn't for me. Even on Smash I have a hard time choosing Olimar.
However it wouldn't surprise me if people love it, and want to have it because the consensus among most people is that it is a gem, hard to miss, and hard to avoid, and that many have enjoyed it since it first came out for the GameCube.
It was a period where without Indy developers to rival them, Nintendo became at the time one of the most experimental developers and publishers in the industry, a hole that was needed to be covered, and something they demonstrated with this title.
