I think this controller is pretty much the best in terms of modern controllers. The 360 controller was amazing and made so much progress in terms of making a good ergonomic controller. The only drawbacks I can think of is the battery pack and the D-pad on it, and they fixed both of them with the Xbox One controller. The rumble in the triggers, the new D-pad, the matte finish on the newer rendition all make for a beast of a controller. The only problem I have with it is that the thumbsticks break way too easily? Anyone else have that problem? They drift in all sorts of directions and despite trying to fix them with all sorts of tutorials on YouTube, they always get back to this state. I have 4 controllers, and only my original Day One controller has both thumbsticks in working order. It bothers me to no end. Anyone else had that problem?

I generally like the XBox 1 controller too; however, I still love my Switch Pro Controller a little more. I don't have an XBox 1, but my brother does. His kids play it a lot, and they haven't had that problem. On the Nintendo side of the house, I discussed how to fix Joy Con drift for the Switch. I actually replaced one of the thumb sticks and it has worked wonders. Have you gone that far in trying to fix it? I highly recommend it, because the end result is so damn satisfying.

Replacing the whole thumbstick mechanism require so much work and preparation that it's not worth doing. You'll need a solder suction gun and good soldering skills. Tried to do it without a suction gun and ended up frying the board in a 360 controller back in the day.

You start off by declaring the Xbox One controller near-perfect, but what I bolded about the thumbsticks is an instant deal-breaker for me personally. If a controller has worse thumsticks than the Xbox 360 controller then I definitely don't want it, since the 360 controller already has the worst thumbsticks in terms of build-quality of any that I've ever used. They loosen up rapidly and the actual rubber molding on my controller's thumbsticks is decaying; I've NEVER encountered this issue with any other controllers I've used in all my days playing games. And the former problem is very frustrating when playing certain games since it makes my character walk in circles if I don't manually recenter the stick. Honestly it reminds me of complaints I've read about the Atari 5200 controller's joystick. So yeah, count me out. The inclusion of a headphone jack and an improved D-pad isn't enough to redeem the Xbox One Controller if what I've read about it is true.

They're much more sensitive than the 360 one and rhe rubber is much better quality. I've got many hundreds of yours with all of them and the rubber on all of them look almost new. The problem lies in the thumbstick mechanism itself.

Balder, I see what you mean. I just watched this guy work on 25 elite controllers too:
If you're lucky, I guess the potentiometer could be fixed if cleaning doesn't work. I found this all very interesting. The Switch controllers are all connected through ribbon cables, which makes it 100% easier to fix. I wonder why the engineers designed the XBox controller this way.

Yeah, I've got 4 controllers, and only the launch one is in full working order, which is weird since those are apparently the ones that are the most faulty.
