I think the menus caught my attention the most.
Yeah, after coming from Gran Turismo Sport, seeing a full Gran Turismo game is something special.
The last game that had all of that fleshed out career mode was Gran Turismo 6 because it was a full game.
At the time we all expected that Gran Turismo Sport was going to be that. Heck, you can even get your own real life world class racing license through the game, but Gran Turismo Sport is more like a Prologue, not a full game.
It did allow the competition to flourish like Assetto Corsa, and Project Cars, and those are definitely here to stay. Anything Codemaster does is amazing too.
If it wasn't for first party games like Forza or Gran Turismo, Codemasters would basically have a monopoly.
Codemasters swallowed Evolution Studios when they were closed by Sony when Driveclub went through so many issues, now they all work for Codemasters. These are the people behind the MotorStorm series.
Codemasters recently also swallowed Slightly Mad Studios, the people making the Project Cars series with Namco. In fact Project Cars 3 was already announced, under Codemasters.
Codemasters also has the most important motorsport license which is Formula 1. Like Lord Karnage used to say when they were releasing arcade racers left and right, "they are at a mission to become the dominant racing force in the Universe", and they are still doing it today.
However a full Gran Turismo game will always be unique, not only because the excellent racing, but also because of the way the career mode is designed to progress, collecting cars, and building your garage, it just never gets old.
On top of that you have to admire Polyphony for the level of polish these games have, but most importantly the class, it is honestly hard for a game to be more elegant in its presentation.
Nowadays competitors have a lot of polish, too, I am not surprised they are equal to Polyphony on that, but to be fair they lack on the elegant department, and in how addicting their career modes are.
That said I always end up getting all of them, so it is the same to me. This is not a FIFA / PES situation where you get one or the other, here the more the merrier.
I always wanted to get into Gran Turismo but just isn't my kind of game. Was always a Ridge Racer fan. But this looks great as all the GT games always have.
I miss arcade racers too. It sucks they are in the past, and they don't make them anymore. Just like on rail shooters, arcade racers are basically non existent now, and it is a shame.
Not just from Namco, but from Konami, and from Sega specially are the ones I miss the most. I love sim racers, but we all need arcade racers in our lives as well.
