This movie looks right up my alley, I actually played the game back in the day, a friend of mine had it, and he lived close by, I played many Super Nintendo games because of him.
Now that I think about it, in hindsight, his entire collection was formidable. He also got the N64 before I did.
I found a review of it:

This movie is pretty cooo. It's often compared to The Raid since both movies came out around the same time, are R-rated and take place in a single building. The Raid is easily the superior movie, but Dredd is great at what it does. It has awesome action scenes, Karl Urban is great as Judge Dredd and even though a female character is introduced it doesn't devolve into some lame romance side plot. I watched this film shortly after it came out so I need to rewatch it soon. So for now I'll give it a 4/5.

Really good actually. Karl Urban is quite good, but he usually is in everything he is in. This would make a great TV show with him, those were rumors at one point.

I agree with this post for the most part, just not so strongly that Raid is the better movie. I would pick it out of the two, but it's a closer call for me since I like the style and characters of Dredd better. I should also rewatch the movie, I might have already if I had remembered I suggested this. lol Dredd is a great movie but the biggest problem for me is that it does kinda feel like a prologue to bigger and better things but then it never got a sequel. It would have been awesome if that rumored TV series was happening but I doubt it. Karl Urban is great as already said. Lena Heady also put in a pretty good performance. I remember the whole movie first time I watched it she seemed familiar and I didn't realize she was whatshername in Game of Thrones until I looked her up.

What happened to thid movie is a tragedy. The film was poorly marketed and misleading, which made it underperform. Fans of the franchise loved it, but due to a poor box office, the sequel was canned.

The same thing happened to the original, apparently. This popped up in my feed for no apparent reason, and I found it rather interesting.

I didn't know we had a thread for this!
It will sound like an exageration, but I honestly consider it one of the best action movies of the last decade. It's easily comparable do Mad Max: Fury Road, as in both movies understand that they're action movies, so they don't need extraneous plots or forced romances. They begin with an action scene as a setup, give a straightforward reason for the following action, and then they deliver on creative, well made action scenes (John Wick also follows on that). So it's a "pure action" movie. Great setting, characters and effects, certainly a 5/5 to me.
