The ultra-conservative Dakotas are leading the world right now in per-capita covid-19 fatalities. The republican governor of South Dakota refuses to enforce a statewide mask mandate as covid cases there continue to skyrocket.

I never caught covid and haven't been vaccinated yet, so I've been especially wary this summer.

I lost a very close friend on April, but this was before the variant, he was in the hospital for 4 months. His dad died of the same thing on January, a few days after he was diagnosed.
My friend wanted to go home, but they wouldn't let him go because of how sick he was, they had to constantly put him to sleep because he would try to escape.
They wanted to do a lung transplant, but he was already getting better, so they postponed it, and then he got bad again. They didn't have any precondition, they were very healthy.
His dad was 54, and my friend survived for 4 months more because he was only 32. They lived in Virginia.

You'd think he would've been healthy enough at that age to fight off the virus. I get the feeling that repeatedly putting him under probably complicated his recovery a lot. I'm not sure why he wanted to escape so badly. I've never heard of a patient doing that, unless it's a drug addict at rehab, or something like that. |

No man he didn't even drink alcohol, or smoke, completely healthy, no addictions of any kind. What happens is that he already had two kids and a wife, and after months of being on a bed it's understandable to want to leave. Also I don't know how many times it happened, that's just what his sister said.
