This week, Ralph Macchio is... ...and not Jaden Smith, who technically was the KUNG FU kid, but they just borrowed from the original 'Karate' name despite the two martial arts not even being the same. I mean, did they really think people were that dumb? Chosen by: Pimpjira Year: 1984 Starring: Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita, Elisabeth Shue Directed by: John G Alvidsen Written by: Ralph Kamen Produced by: Jerry Weintraub

This comes at a perfect time. It is on Netflix, and I haven't seen it in 2 decades at least.

One of my favourite movies of all time and believe it's one of the greatest movie of all time. My third favourite to be precise. I must of watched it first at the age of four or five and love it to this day.
And Cobra Kai is a great continuation of the story. I actually like it more than Karate Kid 2/3.

John G. Avildsen makes some great movies and does pick some interesting scripts. His movies are usually quite fun and entertaining, however, The Karate Kid is like the kids' version of Rocky. It's inferior in pretty much every way. Here's my review of it from when I watched it earlier this year:
"An iconic classic for sure, but I have my doubts if this movie holds up well. John G. Avildsen directed Rocky, and The Karate Kid is basically Rocky, but for kids. It plays out very much like a kid's movie, and the quality of the movie suffers from it. There are of course the generic bully storyline with a romance put in for good measure. The fighting is mediocre at best, and the film generally drags on as this is not a short movie by any means. This only goes to show that the original Rocky movie had so many important factors besides its director. The Karate Kid does have some good things about it though. Mr. Miyagi is incredibly iconic and he is the best thing about this whole movie. The original song You're the Best by Bill Conti is fantastic. Overall I think The Karate Kid has its moments, but this is a movie that had its heydays back when it came out. Better movies have come and gone after this movie was released." 2.5/5

It's a movie that's extremely genuine as Stallone has put a lot of himself into that story. The Karate Kid never felt like it reached that level of greatness to me.

I can say this, when I saw these movies on TV during the 90s, it made me take karate classes for a while, but I only made to yellow, LOL! But I remember feeling great about putting that uniform.

I think it's natural to use Rocky as reference since both movies have the same director, they've got similar themes, plot and settings, and the soundtrack is by Bill Conti and was going to be used in Rocky before it was changed to The Eye of the Tiger.

Having internet troubles still since storms wrecked havoc a couple days ago so I'm not typing out much of a post. lol Cobra Kai is hitting Netflix soon and I've heard the third season is completed so I'm hoping the wait isn't much longer for it.
