I really love this book, pretty much every Jules Verne book was a blast for me when I was a teenager in school.
I feel when you are younger your brain is more active, so reading these books feels like some kind of virtual reality where you are actually there.
I vividly remember I could even smell the algae before entering the Nautilus as the journey begins with Captain Nemo.
You really can't go wrong with his books. Him along with Victor Hugo, and Alexandre Dumas were definitely some of my favorite writers at the time.
I haven't seen the movie, but Kirk Douglas is a badass actor I really admire.

What's the point of discussing the versions of movies nobody has seen. Even when I searched the title of the movie, only the 50's version came up, so that's the one I'm going to watch. Anyways, I saw it and it was pretty good:
"This movie was surprisingly a very fun and enjoyable one. It gives me a sense of wonder and exploration, similar to some of the expedition-esque TV shows I watched as a kid. It is a classic tale about explorers going out on an expedition to find a monster that has been plaguing ships out at sea. What makes it so fun is that the characters have great chemistry together and that there a lot going on. One of the characters is played by Peter Lorre and then you know it is going to be great. I do feel like it is a rather long movie, but it is justified for the most part by having different set pieces that these characters interact with like the submarine, the island and the different ships they encounter. After watching so many unoriginal live-action Disney movies, it was great going back some decades to watch something from a time where they covered broke new ground." 3.5/5
