I remember this movie was very popular even years later after it came up. I remember people mentioning the name, but I didn't get a chance to see it. I love true stories in general.
I want to see it because I really like 1999 in movies, some of my favorite movies are from that year like Fight Club, The Matrix, Memento. I even like the chick flicks from that year, it had a lot of fun stuff.

Do horror movies this month from now on, it's the holiday's spirit man. Halloween season to me is the second half of October. The horror will come my man.
I love this movie. It is based off of a true story, and I really like how they portrayed how it went down. West Virginia had such a struggle with their economy as the coal mines started to close. I've been through there before, and the poverty rate is really bad, and a lot of people don't realize it. Homer Hickam's story truly portrays the mentality of some of these small towns where moving up in society was not an option due to a societal mentality that was stuck in the dark ages. You either went to college on a football scholarship, or you worked in the coal mine. Hickam was obsessed with Sputnik and Werner von Braun, and he wanted to take his life in a totally different direction then the dogma of a small town allowed. The story delves into the world of outdated education, local politics, the problems caused (mostly drunkeness) by mindless labor, the fragility of a family that has a bread winner that could die at any moment, and the Cold War. Sure, it has its cheesiness, but it is done in a family friendly way that I am willing to overlook without rolling my eyes to the point of nausea. I really liked this one.
