I like Dukirk a lot, but the first/only time i watched it, it was kind of confusing with the jumping of timelines. I am sure that the second time I watch it'll be even better though.

I saw this movie back when it came out in theaters, and while it was a good movie, I did feel like everyone thought it was a masterpiece and that it's one of the greatest war movies ever made, when in fact it drifts into mediocrity for me every time I think of it. This was my review of the film from when I watched it:
"The master of pacing Christopher Nolan dropped the ball on pacing here. Everything from cinematography, actors, visuals and sound are top notch, but when the pacing is at constant action with no dynamic and nothing to spice things up, it gets tedious and I became very desensitized to it all. Having a super clique zoom-in at an officer with a worried look when a German fighter comes, had no emotional impact on me when it is the fifth time it has happened. The beginning of this movie was pretty terrifying (not seeing the enemy but just experiencing their omnipresence), the middle was a drag after a while and the end just wrapped things up with a nice speech. Not a bad movie, I just expected much more (or perhaps something else) from Nolan." 3.5/5
I think this was the point where I became more outspoken with criticism of Nolan. He's had some great movies like The Dark Knight, but honestly, I don't think there's a single movie in this guy's filmography that isn't wildly overrated by the masses (except for maybe Insomnia, which I think is slightly underrated).

Hard to make a war movie be PG13...

Insomnia is COMPLETELY underrated. You are absolutely right about that. I do love me some Inception, though. I don't think that one is overrated at all.
As for this movie, I gave it a hard pass since it was PG 13. I'm sure clips would be great in a high school history class, but after you watch something like HBO's The Pacific, you don't want to go back. It doesn't look like the forum is convincing me otherwise.
That reminds me. I still need to see 1917.

Wow, nobody I know has seen Insomnia, let alone heard about it. 1917 is a solid war movie that looks stunning. It's Deakins doing the cinematography though, so expect nothing less than beauty.

Since I suggested this one I guess I'm forced to give my personal official rating.
This is one is a solid 8.9/10
Honestly I can't get enough of Christopher Nolan's work. His entire style for making movies is what a cinematic experience always felt in your imagination.
When you watch this movie, you feel like you are receiving a master class in film making. This is the perfect example of how movies should feel like in every single way.
I wish he would use the IMAX cameras in the entire movie. The whole going back and forth from cinematic always makes you want more of that awesome 16:9, but I guess they are too expensive for that.
I understand he had to do that because if he was not using the cinematic cameras for the cheaper scenes he would literally be using TV cameras which are a lot cheaper and it would degrade the whole vibe of the movie.
Without breaking the momentum you are traumatized from the start with a glance of how the lost generation faced The Great War, with 40 million deaths, and 60 million people injured or lost, right before the Spanish Flu took another 50 million on the first year, and possibly another 50 million that were impossible to count 100 years ago.
I really wish the movie had Atmos, but the master audio DTS is still outstanding here and it keeps you on your seat perplexed from all the different points of view from which this movie presents you that small week long glance of what it was one of the most challenging times humanity has witnessed in recent history.

In his recent movies, Nolan has had a huge issue with mixing music, sound effects and dialogue. Without subtitles, it's impossible to hear what the hell characters are saying. It's just embarrassing why he can't get this right.

It's just embarrassing why he can't get this right. I suggest a better center channel. I haven't had that issue in ages. I know the center channel is usually underrated, but it is one of the most important pieces of equipment in your system. You want it to at least match your mains for balance, but also because it is so key in having a proper sound, specially for the dialogue. The sound mixing in this movie sounds great to me, but maybe it has to do because I'm putting 6.5" drivers and 1" titanium tweeters all around me. I have no idea how I could go back to watch this on stereo after hearing it on a home theater. I do wish it had Atmos though, specially because this movie is about planes too, so to me that was a major mistake, but like I said before the DTS HD here is outstanding, specially for all those build-up scenes Nolan is known for.

In case you missed it, I did watch it in an Atmos cinema. So if any case it should sound amazing there, but it was an awfully loud movie where you could not hear what people were saying and the fighter plane scenes were so loud that at one point a buddy of mine and myself had to cover our ears. One should never have to cover ones ears when watching a movie, wtf.

One should never have to cover ones ears when watching a movie, wtf. You watched it on Atmos? I'm officially jealous now. The Blu-Ray 4K HDR version does not have Atmos at all, only DTS HD Master Audio. Now I feel really bad I didn't get to see this on theaters if the cinema versions had Atmos because the home versions definitely do not have it. About the loudness, it is all about the receiver you have. My receiver makes it sound very detailed like real life even at low volumes, and my Klipsch speakers are great for that too. Some movie theaters put movies way too loud and in all honesty I feel I have better sound in my house than many of those theaters because here I can point the speakers directly at me and feel the sound crystal clear without any distortion. I do like some volume on this movie though, otherwise it loses the bombs realism, but not extreme either, just real enough. Even if there was no corona, after getting a proper home theater and a decent size projector screen it is getting harder and harder to justify going to the cinema. Even last year I was pretty much going all the time, and now even if there was no pandemic I don't think I would go as much. My favorite cinema is very well calibrated as far as I remember, but I have been in some of those theaters that may have good equipment, but that are awfully unbalanced, and this is another reason why home theaters are worth it because you never know when your favorite theater will need a calibration fix. I still can't believe there was an Atmos version, and I missed it, I had no idea until now that you said it. I'm not complaining though, the home version sounds excellent with my setup, so at least I got to experience that. I'm still jealous though, in your original review you said the sound was top notch, and I imagine it is because you said it had Atmos. Well, without Atmos like the version I have that doesn't have it, you lose the top part and you only stay with the surround part, which is still great, but a movie with planes would definitely benefit from having the top part too.
