It was pretty good as a launch title. Not very deep though.

I wanted to finish the game before commenting here, but I'm still not done with it.
I actually made it to level 7, and saved, which gives you an enough perspective of what the game is about.
I have to say that as a kid if I had this game I would had definitely love it.
I don't think there is anything wrong with this game.
It is not the type of artwork that I like, but it is really fun anyway.
This kind of artwork became popular later in the 90s through Nickelodeon and whatnot, so I guess you can say this game was ahead of its time in 1991.
However even then we already had stuff like Beettlejuice, and the Adam's Family, so maybe not.
The platforming is great, it is very floaty which is unnecessary, but I imagine it is still a nice show off feature to have for those coming from the NES.
The level design is not just horizontal like most platformers, it is vertical too, which is something I always liked since I played Kid Icarus on the Game Boy.
You have some consumable powers that you find on your way, to choose from, but that aren't clear about what they do, so you have to try them.
This power ups only last 10 seconds, yet they can be very useful in boss battles.
I can tell that the proper way to play it is with the 3-button original Genesis controller. I played it with the DS4, but I was wishing the whole time I had the Genesis controller for it.
The one thing I wasn't expecting about it is that once you beat a boss you can't progress unless you go back and find the one important item on that level.
If you are good at platforming and you are trying to plow your way through, this will slow you down, but for a good cause because it will allow you explore the levels more thoroughly, which is something that otherwise you wouldn't do, and that's a good thing because you get to see all the cool ideas they had in the game.
Overall this is a very fun game, that I recommend, and you are definitely better off playing this game than many of the games coming out nowadays, it is less boring, and a better use of your time.
