My friend used to have a PSP and he modded it so he can play Nintendo games, my brother did the same, as an emulator machine, it really kicks ass.

Any genres in particular you're interested in, centipede?

So without knowing exactly what you want or are into, I won't go into too detailed of a description. You'll also probably notice my titles lean more into the JRPG genre. (Will add more later as well)
The 3rd Birthday Not a great game, but does server as a strange final follow up to the Parasite Eve games on the PS1.
Ace Combat Joint Assault Ace Combat X Decent adaptations of Namco's long-running arcade flight series. The controls are a bit more awkward due to the PSP's lack of a second analog stick and L2/R2 buttons.
Breath of Fire III Not physically released in North America, but has an english language physical release in Europe as was eventually made available on the PSN for North America. Fun JRPG and superior port of the PS1 original
Capcom Classics Remixed Capcom Classics Reloaded Capcom Puzzle World Decent collections of Older Capcom games
Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles Decent polygonal remake of the original 'Castlevania: Rondo of Blood', with both the original Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night as unlockables. (Those unlockables were apparently the basis of the versions used in the Dracula X collection for the PS4)
Crimson Gem Saga Decent quality, pretty JRPG. (I'll probably be describing a lot of things that way).
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII In my opinion, this is the only FF7 spinoff worth playing and stands on its own as a good game. Prequel action RPG starring SOLDIER member Zack Faire
Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days Disgaea Infinite All solid tactical JRPGs. These have been released a number of times, so these aren't the best looking versions, but fun in the pocket..
Every Extend Extra Fun, flashy shooter
Final Fantasy Final Fantasy II Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection Probably the nicest sprite-based versions of these games. The FF4 complete collection also includes "The After Years" sequel and another mini-story bridging the gap, both of which are pretty forgettable in my opinion.
Final Fantasy III Unlike the previous ones, this one has polygonal characters, and is a more ground-up remake of the original. It is a port of the DS version, which has since been released for PC as well. The team that did this previously did Final Fantasy: 4 Heroes of Light on the DS, and has also done the DS FF4 remake, The Bravely Default series, and Octopath Traveler
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions This is an excellent remake and expansion of the PS1 original with some extra character classes, and a nice 16:9 facelife. This is available on android and iOS so arguably not the nicest looking version anymore, but since it still allows use of standard controller buttons instead of a touch screen, I'd consider it superior.
Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time Well-reviewed tactical RPG in a long-running series.
Gungnir Another well-reviewed tactical JRPG.

Hammerin' Hero This was an entry in the series known in the west as "Hammerin' Harry". Fun sort of action platforme beat-em up with cute characters
Hexyz Force Another well-reviewed, but short JRPG.
Jeanne d'Arc Fantasy tactical RPG very loosely based on the life of Joan of Arc
The Legend of Heroes (Subtitled 'A Tear of Vermillion' in Japan) The Legend of Heroes II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch The Legend of Heroes III: Song of the Ocean This is the JRPG LoH 'Gagharv trilogy. Released out of order outside Japan (original release order is Moonlight>Vermillion>Song). I haven't played these myself, but they're on my list. Minimally related tales set in a world where a giant gorge cuts off large sections of the main continent, each game takes place in a different region with a few recurring elements. I've heard a lot of what is introduced here both mechanically and story-wise was further refined in the "Trails" games that followed it, but that these are worth playing.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC Very well-reviewed JRPGs, the introduction to Falcom's 'Trails' sub-series set in the continent of Zemuria, and spanning 10 games so far. The PSP versions are probably not the ones I'd recommend, as they lack some of the features, and script refinements available in the english PC release, but still great games. I think SC is one of the only, if not the only PSP games where the physical version is on two UMDs.
LocoRoco LocoRoco 2 Fun puzzle platformers, but hard to describe.
Lumines Lumines 2 There's no real need to own both of these, so I'd say for for Lumines 2 if you can. Every portable system needs at least one excellent falling blocked game, and the Lumines series got its start on the PSP. Slower paced than Tetris, with a relaxing techno soundtrack, it still receives updates and sequels up to the current day.
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete I actually like this version of Lunar better than the PS1 or Saturn versions, but it is the same by the numbers JRPG it always was.
Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X Neat polygonal remake of the original MMX. Item locations have changed, so if you like the original, but wouldn't mind a bit of a remix, it adds some replay value.
Mega Man: Powered Up A remake of Mega Man 1, featuring 2 new bosses, and very cutesy, super-deformed character designs. You can either play with the original level maps, or in expanded ones remade for this title. Roll, as well as all the bosses are unlockable as alternate playable characters.

Metal Gear Acid Metal Gear Acid 2 Surprisingly, these series translate pretty well into a tactical RPG/card game form. The story is non-canon for the main series, but quite engaging, and the cards are a fun tour through Metal Gear History
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops+ (non-story mission expansion to the original) Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel The graphic novel isn't actually a game, but a re-telling of MGS1 in comic style that is pretty cool. Both Portable Ops and Peace walker feature the same kind of comic-style cut scenes by artist Ashley Wood.
My recommendations here come with a lot of caveats. Portable Ops, PO+, and Peace Walker all suffer due to the PSP's limited controls. For Peace Walker, I'd strongly recommend playing the HD Collection version on the PS3 instead, though the PSP version is playable.
Portable Ops (an PO+) both run at around 15 frames per second in game, so can be quite rough to play. I ended up playing Portable Ops on an emulator on the PC where I could increase the frame rate, and remap the buttons for ease of use. Even then, some things can be issues. For example, you recruit troops much like in Peace Walker and The Phantom Pain, but rather than use the convenient (if admittedly silly) Fulton recovery balloons, you'll have to drag bodies back through the entirety of some decent sized levels and load them onto a truck, which can be extremely tedious.
So while I can recommend these entries, I would say only if you're a big Metal Gear fan who hasn't experienced them.
n+ Fast and furious platforming action, though this game has been released in many versions on many platforms.
Namco Museum Battle Collection Decent collection of classic Namco games
Patapon Patapon 2 Patapon 3 Not sure how best to describe these...rhythm-based 2D RTS? They're fun though. 1 and 2 have been re-released on PS4

Persona Persona 2: Innocent Sin Persona 3 Portable All fine entries into this Shin Megami Tensei JRPG sub-series. Persona 1 and 2 IS are excellent remakes of the PS1 originals, with Innocent Sin getting an English release for the first time. Sadly the PSP remake of the second half of Persona 2 (Eternal Punishment) did not receive an official localization, but the original PS1 version did...so you get a mismatched taste of the full duology. A fan translation of Eternal Punishment has been in the works for years at this point.
Persona 3 Portable has a more simplified interface than the PS2 versions, and a graphical downgrade, but is still a fun playthrough. It remains the only version where you have full manual control of the entire party instead of just the main character, and the only version where you can play an alternate female main character.
Star Ocean: First Departure Star Ocean: Second Evolution Excellent remakes of the original PS1 editions of this space fantasy action JRPG that are well worth playing, though they have upgraded ports available on the PS4 and Switch.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together A classic tactical JRPG originally available for the SNES. This is probably the best port of the original available.
Ultimate Ghosts'n'Goblins A polygonal entry in the long running series. Not a series high point, but still a fun action platformer.
Valkyria Chronicles 2 Valkyria Chronicles 3* Excellent, though scaled-down sequels to the PS3 original. As with the first VC, they have an interesting take on turn based combat with free movement across the battle field, and many enjoyable characters. VC3 never received an official english translation, but has an excellent fan-patch available and is the reason I originally soft-modded my own PSP.
VC is a bit of an odd series. VC1, 3 and 4 all take place along different fronts in the same war, so can be played with minimal spoilers for each other, and serve as good entry points of the series. VC2 is the only true sequel so far, advancing by a view years. I would recommend playing VC1 before VC2.
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth Another excellent remake of a PS1 JRPG classic with gorgeous artwork and a memorable, norse-inspired story.
Yggra Union This is an enhanced port of an earlier Game Boy Advance tactical RPG
Ys I and II Chronicles Ys: The Oath in Felghana (Ys III remake) Ys Seven Entries and remakes of a classic action RPG series. All 3 of these look better in the PC incarnations, but are still a ton of fun on the go, and have some truely excellent music.
