Metal Gear Solid
I first heard of Metal gear Solid from a guy at school and he says how it was soo much better than Tenchu which was one of my favourite games at the time so i couldn't wait to play it. But once I did I found the game to be incredibly slow paced and way too story driven. But most of all I just couldn't get used to the gameplay. The stealth was just way too hard and just all around not fun. But I could tell there's something great about the series and always tried to come back to it but always ended up just switching the game off in disappointment. great game but just not my kind of game.
Gran Torismo
This is basically Metal Gear Solid the car game. I love the aesthetics and car variations of the game. But to me the controls were terrible and one of those games where it's fine going straight but the only way to turn corners was to scrape across the barriers. And I always came last no matter ho much I played to improve. And I really wanted to like this series.
Every GTA after Vice City
I was extremely disappointed with San Andreas because the world just felt lifeless and lacked the atmosphere of the previous games as well the music wasn't even close to the previous games. I also didn't care for the characters. but GTA 4 was even worse, I think GTA 4 is the only game where I shut it off without even completing one mission and never played it ever again. I mean the controls were soo bad I was just fighting with the controls the whole time. Driving a car was soo terrible that you get thrown through the wind shield just from slightly tapping your car with any object.
Brave Fencer Musashi
I really wanted to enjoy this game. The first half hour is incredible with huge boss fights and great humour and action stages. But the rest of the game is just shitty fetch quests with a shitty map on a shitty time limit. This game could of been great and I always went back to give this game many tries was was always reminded on how great it could of been.

I would have a massive list, but nowadays that many games are getting VR ports they are starting to become interesting to me.
Those were games that otherwise would not call my attention, and all of the sudden are an experience worth checking out.
Skyrim, L.A. Noire, No Man's Sky, Borderlands, Hitman, etc..

You couldn't get into Skyrim and Borderlands, stratogustav?. Not that i'm judging, lol. I mean just look at my list. I'm pretty sure it doesn't make sense to a lot of people. I get that games like Skyrim are not every ones cup of tea, But I'm very curious to why you couldn't get into Borederlands?.

Ikaruga. Goddamn, Ikaruga. It's not that I don't like the game: it's just that I have a really hard time getting into the entire genre, for some reason I suck at shmups. Besides Layer Section/Rayforce and Crimzon Clover, there are hardly any shmups in which I can get past the first three levels or so. In Ikaruga, I don't think I could even finish the second level with the standard amount of lives/continues. The PC/Steam release has an optional infinite lives mode, maybe I'll leave my pride and go with it.
There are many others, but Ikaruga is the one that makes me sad.
EDIT: Maybe I should add the Devil May Cry series. Although I love it on principle, due to character action being my favourite 3d genre, it has too much focus on juggling and long combos instead of movement and counterattacks/parrying/dodging like Ninja Gaiden/Nier Automata/Furi/Metal Gear Rising/Bayonetta. Even though I played the entire series (minus DMC5) and enjoyed DMC1 a lot due to its nice setting and exploration elements, I never enjoy the series as much as I want to; I always feel like the movement and jumping is a bit clunky (I remember DMC4 being a bit better, but then it had many other problems, being absurdly repetitive and seemingly unfinished). DMC5 looks super fun, though, I hope it's finally the one that I'll get into.

Cervantes About Ikaruga and the like, a big thing is coming from the classic old school approach to games in a score based fashion. Old school games like Galaga, Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, etc., didn't have a clear ending in sight, so the goal was never to finish the game, but to go as far as possible. During the NES era the mentality slowly started to change to gameplay sessions having a finite outcome, and many players couldn't go back because console gaming was made that way. However there is this subset of players that grew up on the arcades that got used to a different approach because even though arcade games in the 90s already had a clear ending, they were still designed to be played over and over again. The fighting genre is an example where you can see the ending for each character, but the appeal of the game is not that, it is the gameplay itself, to keep fighting over and over again because of the 1 on 1 challenge it presents. So that's why games like Ikaruga or games like the Metal Slug games that may look very hard to 1CC become so appealing because even if you can't do 1CC them easily, you can enjoy getting as far as you can, and trying over and over again from the beginning because the goal is the gameplay itself, much more than just getting the ending. Ironically this mentality is coming back with the free to play games, which is not something new, it's how it all started, so in the big scope of things, having a limited campaign is the oddity. About Devil May Cry a big thing for those games is that they are very similar to Mega Man, which it is not surprising since they both are official Capcom IPs. The games are designed around elegance, even if they are completely different genres, you get rewarded the more you make your gameplay look cool. This is why they have a grading system based on your show off performance, and that's how you get into those games, so when you get those SSS ranks you feel boss, and you know it is true because you just saw it. It's like Goku's Ultra Instinct where all you have to do is to let it flow. Coincidentally that's also how CAVE became so big because they force you to basically have a dance with the rain, and it is pleasing to your senses: Bogard At the time it came out I wasn't playing games, so I missed all the hype around it, and pretty much all the big IPs of the time, like Fallout, Mass Effect, Saints Row, Dead Space, Gears, Far Cry, Crysis, Dragon Age, BioShock, or Assassin's Creed for example. I got back into games because of Mark mostly, and when I got back I was looking for old school experiences like the ones I remembered from growing up.

I could never crazy about Halo, especially the single player. The Xbox Transformers games had similar gameplay but I had an easier time getting into it. However, stratogustav , you should play Borderlands 2. That's where the series really took off.

Destiny certainly used Borderlands as a template but still never seemed to achived the open world of borderlands. Borderlands games are some of the best games of the last ten years.

I honestly couldn't get into any shooters after 2004? Around that time. I don't know what happened, but they all started to feel different after Halo was a thing.
I like more the old school type of shooters like the ones on the N64 and GameCube because they felt closer to the light gun games.
When it comes to level design, moving forward in narrow pathways was always infinite times more satisfying in my opinion.
Nowadays I notice some stealth shooters do have a great level design, but I don't like stealth, so no.
To be fair some stealth games do give you the option to go Berzerk, Frenzy, or Commando, and that I like because you get the best of both worlds.
However those are usually third person, so they definitely don't count because on third person, an open area actually works for me.
That said, VR is a game changer, and it can make a game that wouldn't appeal to me, to become very interesting because you are in the game, and that makes a huge difference because you are actually exploring a new world.

Those are the main things that come to mind, although I'm sure that there are more.

-Fallout 4 I put 200 hours into this but have no desire to go back to it but I guess I was into it if I put 200 hours into it. The only thing I really liked was the companion system but it just didn't feel anything like 3 or New Vegas. Then again its Bethesda what did I expect from it a real fallout game like 3 or New Vegas nope definitely not that. I did like the settlement building aspect too but apart from those two things I didn't care for it.
-Grand theft auto vice city Its just an upgraded gta 3. The map is small, you cant swim, its really nothing special. The only thing noteworthy about it is the soundtrack. San Andreas was a huge upgrade compared to vice city and a way better game overall.
-Gta 5 I put 209 hours into this but still have never got truly into it. The singleplayer is a side show compared to the multiplayer and no dlc for it like we were promised. Rockstar only cares about online because that is what makes them money. All the cool stuff is in gta online. But that won't stop me from spawning in the online only vehicles with a trainer and using mods in singleplayer. Also so many problems with this game especially the stupid cops who won't leave you alone. If you even go up to a cop to say hi they pull their guns out and try to kill you. Not to mention the toxic as hell player base and all the problems that gta online comes with. This game has some of the worst loading times ever in a game when played online. You spend more time at the damn loading screen then you do playing the game. I also hate how if you piss off one guy the whole gang is after your ass and the next thing you know the cops show up too making your death ever more likely. I could go on about all the problems this game has and the annoyances I have with it but I'll stop there before I end up writing a novel about it.
-Zelda the whole series don't care for it. I just don't. Nintendo has been relying on this series and Mario for so damn long now seriously I don't see how people aren't tired of it yet.
-Pokémon the newer ones mainly I did not care for ultra sun or moon and didn't like X or Y either. Haven't played sword and shield but I'm not holding very high expectations for them. Honestly some of these Pokémon designs get worse and worse each time a new generation comes out. I honestly would rather play rom hacks or fan made games then play the official games. The rom hacks may not be finished products a lot of the time but they can be a lot more fun and enjoyable to play.
